I remember Kevin Wilson was up for our job before we hired Mullen. He thought you couldn't win here at State. He has sure done great at IU though, with a 20-41 overall record.

Apparently we offered him. It is funny look at some of those comments from 2008.

"well when I talked to Kevin he kinda implied that while he wants to be a head coach that Miss. State is probably not what he wants. he doesn't wanna end up like Chuck Long. However they have put a sweet offer out there"

"Are you saying Miss St is going to use their Katrina money and some Bail Out money to hire Wilson? Otherwise, I don't see how they can afford him."

"Why would he want to go there? If he's patient, a MUCH better job will come along than MSU"

We never offered Wilson. He was our #2 choice behind Mullen and said all that stuff to save face after he was told we were going another direction. Now, I'm sure the talks with him were advanced enough that money was discussed, which may be where the "sweet offer" talk comes from. But, he never had a contract in hand.

So does this mean Allen found him a job that would allow him to run back to Freeze when he gets the chance?

Surprised he didn't just stay at USF...will be interesting to track him and see 3 years from now how it all works out

I remember we spoke with Wilson but Malzahn was our #2 behind Mullen. Gus wanted the job. Part of it was his hatred of Houston Nutt. Tommy Bowden begged for it but we had no interest.

If that is the case, then I'm glad we landed option 1, because options 2 and 3 were pretty shitty.

Couple of points here:

1. I remember when Kevin Wilson was mentioned as a candidate and rumored to be the favorite. For some reason- and I don't know why- I had a bad feeling about him. I remember being relieved when it wasn't him.

2. If Tom Allen ended up at Indiana after being courted by Auburn and MSU, he ****ed up. We'll see what happens but Indiana is the kind of place where a coach's career can decline. Ask Kevin Wilson. Heck, if I had to choose between Indiana and South Florida as a football coach, I'd probably stay at South Florida.

Exactly! Indiana is the Kentucky of the Big 10 but not as good as Kentucky.

We've been a better football program than Indiana for a long time. They've had ONE winning season (7-6) since 1994.

But it's a nice drive to the campus once you enter Bloomington**

ETA: They also have a great musical note for a logo.

Really Clark?

He is from Indiana and got his masters degree from there. Coached for nearly a decade in Indiana high schools including at Ben Davis High School for a 8-9 working up to HC. That's his connection. Odd move career wise in that he could have moved up from USF just as well to a lot of Power 5 jobs but not so crazy when considering its home.

He would hop at the job now.

Big.... I do believe this was a honest mistake. As I can see you are a State fan through and through. Try not to let it happen again...https://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/zhEr4_ODv4Nm8ie4sIpQnGx0-nM=/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/3700266/madmax2.jpg

If Allen had a ligit offer from us and didn't take it because of the stipulations and his ties to CHF, then he is a 100% *****... Good luck to him .... Have fun in the Big 10 and Indiana..
