He has been fired since Oct and has anyone even interviewed him for a DC spot? Or position coach? That's a lot of openings. Maybe he has been hired somewhere but I don't remember him even being interviewed anywhere. Of course, he may want to take a year off.

As a DC at UVA:
01 - #91 total D
02 - #100 total D
03 - #67 total D
04 - #18 total D
05 - #60 total D

Bud Foster and the boys across the state:
01 - #2
02 - #32
03 - #51
04 - #4
05 - #1

His defenses at Miami vs the defenses at UF/FSU and vs the previous defenses at Miami under Randy Shannon tell the same story. Do not want.

If we're paying $750-$1mil, I still say let's go get Shannon.

These folks done bumped their heads. Golden is a great coach who was in a bad position. If we could afford him, would be a great hire.

These nimrods were also saying Lane Kiffin was a bad coach after his USC stint (very similar to Golden/Miami).

Talk about SHEEP.

What has he done that makes him a great coach, oh bipolar one?

You possess google, stat boy. Do your own research. You gonna argue either way. There was a reason Al Groh wanted him, and why Temple hired him, and while various teams around the country wanted to hire him away from there.

Then my question is again, since he has been fired has anyone interviewed him for DC? A lot of openings around the country. What about a position coach? He may have been, I just can't recall. And I know he hasn't been snatched up yet.

I imagine he's too expensive. Might have to let his ego deflate a little bit. Plus, I bet a lot of coaches think just like the majority of the population - ie what have you done for me today.

Or he is burnt out and is telling his agent not to put his name out there. But the fact is his name is not out there. This leaves me to want to back off him right now.

I'm with you on the Al Groh reference. Groh was a great defensive coach, but I don't think Golden soaked up too much of the information.

Yet he's never had a truly elite defense in the past 15 years. Not even one elite defense at Miami -- where Diaz will probably have one in the first year or two. Doesn't take a stat boy to dig through 15 years of data and prove to yourself that he's not an elite DC. He won less than the two guys that followed him at Temple -- and won less than the guy before him and will win less than the guy after him at Miami. The only thing he actually did of note was "fix" a Bobby Wallace disaster at a demoted program accustomed to a better league than it found itself in.

Saying he's an elite DC because of his time at Virginia is like saying Les Koenning is an elite OC because of his time at MSU. If you can't have consistent top 25 defenses at Miami -- I don't want you as DC at MSU.

Yeah except that's not true

Umm OKAY. Did you miss the Kiffin reference? What did Miami/Golden have in common with SC/Kiffin? Something a little unique?

Fair enough. He might need a year off. And if his heart's not in it, you're right, we probably don't want him.

He's probably in shock about the fact that people now think he's a terrible coach even though he had both hands tied behind his back. It's like no one remembers Nevin Shapiro.

Don't act like Miami of the present is the U of 1987. Miami is dead.

Yeah.. Al Golden didn't have an elite defense but neither has any coach other than 2001-2002 in the last 30 years. Miami has never even reached the ACC championship game. They are basically the UNM of the ACC. Congrats...

I don't remember saying "they are the U of 1987". But what I do know is that Randy Shannon had top 25 defenses there prettymuch every year from 2001 - 2010. So, your second statement is ridiculous.

For the record:
Randy Shannon as DC
2001 - #6 total D
2002 - #7
2003 - #2
2004 - #28
2005 - #4
2006 - #7
Randy Shannon as HC
2007 - #33
2008 - #28
2009 - #29
2010 - #22

Golden as HC:
2011 - #45
2012 - #120
2013 - #90
2014 - #14
2015 - #69

But, yeah, other than the fact that the worst defense Shannon has been responsible for would be the 2nd or 3rd best Golden has been associated with, Golden is elite.

Miami has problems, but it isn't as dead as people like to pretend every time a power hires 2 subpar coaches in a row. Wish I had a nickel for every time people said you couldn't win big in Tuscaloosa anymore -- and more recently Ann Arbor.
