It would be huge to get him on board. He is a beast on a team with very little talent or coaching.

Word around Greenville is that he is ours and has been for a long time. He is supposed to be a good kid and comes from a good family, so if he gets on board now I doubt you will see any drama.

Just to make it clear, Green has been #1 on our board all along. What Holcombe did/does is inconsequential to that...I get that your saying it sucked to have lost Holcombe -- and I agree with that.

Green is a HUGE recruit for us because he gives us another hybrid player allowing us to be multiple in our looks(without changing personnel against a hurry up). He's gonna be big enough to put his hand on the ground and play DE in stretches while primarily being a huge LB. This makes it so easy to show so many different looks up front...

I agree that Green has been our #1 LB target just saying how bad it would really suck if didn't get Green after having already lost Holcombe to Bama. And I do still believe that Holcombe will end up being a stud LB in college.

Scout has him listed 6-4 220 and running a 4.37. A 4.37 at that size is freakish. Hope that is true and he is committing.

He's all MSU. But make no mistake -- Rebel sites have previously reported that Green was Freeze's #1 target in MS this year even above Rod Taylor... He's certainly going to keep recruiting him, and we'll hear a bunch of spin between now and February.

No way he runs a legit 4.37. But I'm sure he's plenty fast. I'm amped to have him.

There are 11 scholarship seniors including Tobias Smith. We have 83 this year but will have 85 in 2014 when probation is lifted so that makes 13. The rest will have to be due to attrition. I can't imagine going over 20, but I would assume we sign at least 17.

Paul in one of his "odds are" segments on 247 stated the other day a better than 50-50 shot we sign no less than 22. Don't know where he comes up with that number, he for sure is paid more than I am to know those type things, but just passing along his thoughts. Of course, he will tell you all his predictions are subject to change as time goes forward to TIFWIW.

I believe the 2 scholly reduction is for the length of the probation -- so for this(upcoming) class as well(2/yr -- 4 total)...

Is Swedenberg on scholarship? I get 10(counting Tobias) if he isn't...
http://my.jetscreenshot.com/12222/m_20130807-vgxj-54kb.jpg

Trying to reason through it now... was at 87 during last summer(after c/o 2012 reported)...
Lost Addarius Perkins, Nick Schuessler, Xavier Grindle(84). Put Devin Fosselman and William Shumpert(FB) on medical scholarship(82). Lost Nick Redmond and Eric Lawson(80). Lost 17 to graduation last year(63). Signed 22(85). Lost Cord Sandberg and Donald Gray(83). Lost Chris Hughes and Ricco Sanders(81). Then, by simply by looking at the roster, I get 79-81 scholarship players(unsure about Swede and Ivan Muniz)

As of right now, I only show room for 12-13 players... There's going to have to be some pretty significant attrition -- and look at the roster boys, there isn't much obvious dead weight left in the upper classes... Going to get rid of some good players that we hate to lose to sign a reasonable number in this class...

That's super fast for that size. I'd be tempted to see what he's like at TE or even WR but he'd also be a weapon on defense. Think about having a LB roam around with that speed and height. We have some good LB's already. Add this guy into it and watch out!

I just don't see it. I went through the roster in depth this week for a post I have tomorrow. I came up with 83 scholarship players including Tobias Smith, Mike Mordecai the punter and Evan Sobiesk the kicker. Those two may not even be on scholarship, we may have just given Cord and Gray's scholarship to walk-ons for this year. Let's assume we did.

11 seniors leave including Tobias
Take back schollys from those two walk-ons
Add two more from probation

That's 15 schollys available. Attrition is unknown, so who on this team do you cut? I can't imagine letting a freshman from the 2013 class go. John Harris? Gus Walley? Archie Muniz? Where's the fat? If we sign no less than 22 that would mean 7 players need to leave the team somehow. Considering we've had 2-4 per year under Mullen, that seems like a lot to me.

If I'm a 5 star defensive player I want to play on a defense with 4 and 5 star players.

My understanding was that we played with 83 schollys in 2012 and we will in 2013 so in 2014 we will have a full 85. I would imagine Swedenberg has a scholarship.

Without listing every player, my count is 11 seniors (including Swedenberg and Tobias), 22 juniors, 16 sophomores, 15 redshirt freshman (not including Sobiesk and Mordacai) and 17 true freshman = 81, so we have 4 open + the 11 seniors = 15 spots prior to attrition.

ETA: Upon further review, Trent Simpson is for some reason not listed on the official roster. So that's 82 players on scholly this year, meaning even less room for the 2014 class. To get to 22 we will need 8 guys to hit the road.

If I'm a 5 star defensive player I want to play on a defense with 4 and 5 star players.

While your reasoning is sound(I thought you were saying they knew each other or something -- which I'd never heard), if it's his priority to go play with other stars, wouldn't he then be even more locked up to Bama?

We need to be optimistic -- but not get our hopes up on Humphrey. Want him badly -- but he's a Bama kid with a Bama dad and he's 100% picked(among over 50 votes now) to go to Alabama per 24/7 crystal ball...

Interesting... I hadn't heard or thought about that!

It makes sense and helps us out a bit(vs what I had in my head), since we self-imposed down to 23 last year(before announcing penalties) that we also easily could have done the same with the overall roster(we were definitely under 83).

So, we both come up with the same 81 number(through very different methods). Seems likely to be the correct number to me...

Man I'm glad some guys from Greenville Wesson are getting the chance. My senior year they had a RB that played alongside Green on D by the name of Greg Foster. He's a Hinds right now..my buddy told me a few months ago the guy is benching 400 plus and squats 600 plus as a RB. A lot of talent there. Those boys could hit. And I played against some pretty dang good DEs who are playing still. Those guys are the real deal no doubt. Big Pickup.

One thing to remember about attrition. It is also possible that some guys that are on scholarship could choose to stay as a walk-on. Like maybe a Gus Walley.
