It appears that Terrell Buckley was offered our safeties job today & possibly the recruiting coordinator job as well.

It's not known yet if Buckley has accepted the position, but it is likely the Petrino will attempt to match whatever MSU offers.

Hopefully he accepts it

And apparently he makes $200,000 at Louisville. Looks like we made him an offer he can't refuse.

I agree, but, at some point, it will just come down to where Buckley wants to be. After his NFL career, I can't imagine his decision will be based on money.

IMO, MSU almost doubled his salary to prove a point about how badley they wanted him. I doubt Buckley allows this to become a bidding war.

I'd be surprised if Buckley didn't take the offer to be honest with you. More money, closer to home, better conference among other things.

Unless Buckley really wants our job, it seems he would wait till a DC is hired. Might wanna know your boss before you take a job

I wish we would just hire a Recruiting Cord. that isn't an on field coach. I want a guy doing that 365 24/7

If they think he's worth whatever we offer, L'Ville can match or exceed it.... they have the resources

If they felt he was worth it they would have already offered him more money. I look at it from a value standpoint.

Assuming he wasn't terrible with his money during his playing days he is already quite rich. I doubt 100,000 one way or the other makes much of a difference to him.

In Steve's defense, he didn't say T-Buck was out of the picture, he just said it wasn't a done deal and things has slowed down a bit.

My guess is we were looking at a DC that would also be Safeties coach and it didn't work out. Mel Tucker perhaps

Well thats absolutely what happened. We even talked money with Tucker. Not sure if Georgia offered more (which I'm sure they did), Tucker's relationship with Smart was the final factor, or what- but we were getting close with Tucker. As Ive said- I think Tucker or Allen would be a win for us. I love the Buckley choice- he would be a very good recruiter and is probably a good coach.

My question is when did we talk to Mel Tucker? I seriously doubt we had a sit down with him. Knowing Saban I really doubt he let Tucker lose for an interview the week of the national championship.

$450k I'm pretty sure but he was also Assoc HC & RC.

Hughes made $400k with up to a $33k bonus.

FWIW -- one thing that definitely always has to be comparable -- OM just upped their assistant pool to $4.26mil. Ours is currently $3.29mil. Not saying that anyone on staff other than Gonzo deserves a raise right now -- but we've never done a great job investing in assistants.

And just to drive home the point that we have to up our assistants' pay to play big boy football, Alabama just raised their S&C coach up to 600K/yr to keep him. So now Alabama's S&C coach makes more than we paid ANY coach on our entire staff last year. Diaz would have gotten to 600K this coming year had he stayed.

I think our assistants will get a raise this year not sure how much. Coming into this season our assistants were making more than OM's.

If this happens, we've got two young NFL guys coaching our secondary with ties to MS. The way CDM is identifying coaching candidates is pretty impressive. Outside of the constant churn at DC and his reluctance to make Hev prioritize recruiting, you really can't put much else on Mullen. Given the lack of financial commitment to assistants that we've shown historically, he's doing pretty damn good at finding good coaches.

Well Diaz was making 575K compared to Wommack at 725K. Not sure if Diaz would have stayed or not if we were paying him what Wommack is making but it sure wouldn't have hurt. And we probably have better actual football coaches on our staff than OM does but they have significantly better recruiters. Don't need as much coaching if you have more upper crust talent to work with.

I could be wrong on this, but I think all of their contracts go through NSD. Their performance on the recruiting trail helps dictate their raises, which I like. Where I could be wrong is that I'm not certain it's done for everyone on staff, but I know some of our coaches have had their contract renewals timed in Feb.

It's a fair deal for Buckley -- and my statement wasn't about him. The 3 year guarantee is huge for assistant coaches as well when the vast majority of them are on one year contracts.

My issue is really on paying a DC. We need to pay more here.

Doubtful on Manny staying, as he had a once in a lifetime college coaching opportunity to go back home to where his parents are and his wife is from.
