Paul is saying he is a name of interest that has come from multiple sources. Thoughts on him as a DC?

Bad move. Go get Coach O.

Can't see Jay as our DC but could see him coaching our safeties. It's what he played in college.

I think I agree with most in this thread. But I would be OK with Hopson at safety coach and Lance Thompson at DC/LB coach. I could see that potentially happening.

Position coach - sure
DC - uninspiring on the surface as compared to other SEC DC hires

Really Clark?

Not as DC. His 2 years at Memphis were terrible.

His defenses at USM were really good though. And that Memphis team was a raging dumpster fire. I remember playing them and they could barely line up correctly.

And again not my first choice but being fair.

Sure hope not... hopefully a safeties coach.

Would not be happy as a DC. If that is the best we can get at DC after 2 9 win seasons we are not in a very good spot.

Really Clark?

They were bad but after just one year under Fuente they were top 50, in his two years that defense was over 100 in the scoring rankings. Then last year Fuente had it what? Top 20? He would need to go somewhere else as a DC and prove that he can still call games before coming to the SEC. Safety coach...may be. Think I still like Buckley better but Hopson would be a good recruiting add.

Tommy Thigpen or Jovan Dewitt would be better hires. Hopson, horrible hire.

If so, I'm done with State football. Croom like hire

With 2 openings, it could be another co-DC hire.

There are 3 openings.... a possible 4th. I look to see Thompson, a great guy who has been under a master of recruiting and organization guru for years, as no less than co. I also could O being the other side to that.

Mullen has been smart with that.

That leaves 2 spots for recruiter/ coaches.

Botto. Line... we need to pony up money to hire some great coaches

I don't think we'd go after Lance Thompson. You thought Mullen and Diaz clashed. Mullen likes to pull coaches from outside the SEC.

I heard a lot of rumblings about Todd Orlando, but that has died down. Tom Allen's name is being thrown around. Can't say I agree with this one either.

Just no. There are many great candidates out there and I would be surprised if we talk to any of them.

Hopson would be better than O . He knows MIss high school football coaches and has actually been a DC before at USM and Memphis . He was on Ole Miss' staff as DB coach and recruiting coordinator in 2004 and has gone 28-9 the past 3 years at Alcorn . There are bigger fish I would check in with such as Thompson and Allen but if you strike out on your top candidates I think Hopson should be looked at .

Hopson is a retread DC. Just no. He could coach safetys and recruit. Doubt he would come and do that but who knows. Please let's go get a real DC.

If Hopson is hired as our DC, I'm just going to watch replays of 2014-2015 games on Saturdays next fall. I hope like hell that if we are looking at him at all, it's as a Safeties coach. Dear Lord, we win 19 games in two years in the best conference in football, & we have names like Hopson & the Morgan brothers popping up on message boards? Face Palm to MSU.

I would love Hopson as a safeties coach, but not as DC.

Agree. Just hope our admin isn't our local MSU fan on this one.

In spades.

The thought is Templetonesque.

I assume we have moved past that but I'll be nervous until I see the hires.
