Mississippi State: Source tells FootballScoop that Dan Mullen intends to promote assistant Nick Savage to head strength coach.


Looks like Mullen felt like he needed to clear a hire off his plate.

Savage has been handling the S & C since Court left, & it appears that Mullen just liked what he was doing.

Yah, he hinted at promoting from within prior to the bowl game when talking about openings. For that kind of position, no problem with it. Much more concerned about the two major openings and getting Buckley and a new DC in the boat quickly.

Probably b/c Mullen has said strength coach is the most important hire you make b/c they have more access to the players than the head coach does. To just promote from within instead of looking around at maybe the guy from Miami whose players love him seems like the easy way out. Now maybe the players love this guy and he is great at his job. No way for us to know.

Savage worked with Court at OSU before following him here. Continuity with promoting from within and it's way too small of a sample size but thought the players looked very energized for the bowl game after a tough season.
