Looking around the SEC, combined with the recent surge of Newman and Ware, it isn't far fetched to think we are highly capable of a .500 SEC record and potential post season tourney.

If Holman can give us quality mins, we have a shot. We desperately need another post player

Wednesday vs aTm

That should give us a good gauge at to where we are.

It's gonna be a big test. House could torch our zone if he gets hot

SEC play starts today, but only a few teams. Which brings me to my question, why do we never play a big non conference game after December? You see a lot of teams have one big game in the middle of conference play, but I don't ever remember us doing that.

With Howland at the helm, it wouldn't surprise me if we started doing that. If we weather the storm of the first four games and go 2-2, we certainly will have a shot at a .500 record in conference play.

I'm worried we are going to start conference play 1-4.

I just noticed that this year, the sec-big 12 challenge is taking place January 30th, so that is why 10 SEC teams are playing a non-con game.

Yep and that was set when we still had Rick Ray. I gaurentee you had we had Howland when they set the field we would be participating.

To me, that is worst case. We will have a chance against A&M, Arkansas, and Tennessee in the first four. Rick Ray with that schedule would start 0-5.

We could be 0-5 when Ole Miss comes to town.

Really?? There is more chance of us being 5-0 then 0-5 IMO. Not going to happen.

I hope I'm wrong, but our lack of post depth and poor defense will be exposed.

Guys, the reason we are 7-5 mainly has to do with Malik Newman's turf toe to start the season. If we had a healthy Malik Newman from the start, this team is 10-2 and you have a completely different outlook then saying we could start 1-4 or 0-5. My guess is we are 2-3 when Ole Miss comes to town for us to go 3-3 but we are a much better team then our 7-5 record indicates now that Newman is healthy.

If we can start getting quality minutes from Holman, we can make a big improvement. Our first big off the bench doesn't need to be Johnny Z.

Newman getting healthy is huge but the biggest reason we are seeing improvement is that Coach Howland swallowed his pride and went to the Zone. I wish every coach in all our sports were as willing to do such things. Great move coach.

I think it's more than just that. We're playing much more unselfishly. Guys are looking to pass more

Newman is going to the rack at will now, and his intensity level and effort will increase as the competition level increases. His shooting has been spotty, but has he gets healthier in the last couple of games I have turned into a believer. Not having seen him play outside of a couple of all-star games and some highlight footage, I didn't fully understand how much that injury was affecting him but it's obvious now. He can actually get to the basket and his body control and athleticism is outstanding. Can't wait to see him against the more competitive teams.

A&M at home will be tough
We wont win at UPig
We wont win at Kentucky
I think we can beat Tennessee
We are not going to win at Florida

2-3 is best case

We should be 10-2 regardless. Howland being stubborn caused that more than Newman's injury. But give Howland credit- he has adjusted now and we are looking better

We have chances against Arkansas, Tennessee, A&M, and I think we also have a chance at Florida. The only one we don't have a chance against is Kentucky. This is the SEC not ACC, Big 10, or even Big 12.

That's what great coaches do. Howland will have us going deep in the NCAA tourney sooner then people think. I think the trajectory of above .500 this year, NIT the next and a Sweet 16 in year three would suit me just fine.

On a side note- Wednesday night will be the first time for Stansbury to be back in the Hump. Should bring out a really good crowd. He deserves a standing O from the Hump

Even sitting at 7-5 it might be a struggle to get to 9 wins period with this team. ****

But seriously, no we won't win 9 SEC games.

After 3 or 4 conference games we'll know for sure. I'm curious to see if Howland coaches differently or shows anything new.

Tennessee and Auburn both suck. Arkansas isn't far behind. If we can get an upset against A&M, we have a great shot.
