Am hoping that Coach Mullen is taking a hard look at and seriously considering Shane Beamer. The man has had a very solid track I coaching st's, defense and a very nice resume at recruiting coordinator.

His wife, Emily, is from Starkville, MSU graduate, her father was the state trooper escort for MSU fb coaches for16 years. I am thinking that would be a home run hire. Y'alls thoughts?

It will be a cheap not splashy hire.

He was retained at VT and has been the recruiting coord/RB coach at VT. Hasn't coached on the defensive side of the ball since leaving USCe and his special teams there were pretty poor. His next move will be trying to get a HC job more than likely. He was a candidate for the East Car job earlier this month.

Still hear Buckley is the favorite as Safeties Coach. My next move would be Chip Long as TE Coach/Recruiting Coordinator & Sallach to the office like he had planned on a couple years back. Paul also had a great idea this morning on his board. If Sleepy goes with Coach Huges to JSU I'd give his job to Chad Bumphis. We couldn't hire a better person to relate to high profile recruits but is also known statewide so he would be good with coaches too.

I don't know anything about him, but if he's good, then I want him... I don't give a f*ck about a "splash" hire. We need someone who can coach and recruit, whether he's a big name or not.

I have lobbied for Chip for a while now. Think he would be a great addition as well. Do you know if there have been real discussions or just rumor mill hopes many of us have? Good idea with Bumphis

Since we are talking about coaches...what have you heard about an SEC school possibly talking to one of our coaches? I haven't heard anything until someone asked me about it. They supposedly read it online somewhere.

Looks to be just naming coaches now since their search has been a small disaster thus far.

Good deal. And yeah they have received very little traction. The names I received I'm not sure if three of the four would take it either.

Couple of thoughts:
1. Bumphis would be a stud hire if sleepy goes. High profile recruit that can get through to kids.
2. IMO Buckley is the guy at Safety. No source just my gut
3. Shane Beemer, Jacob Peeler of Cal and Chip Long of ASU would all be major upgrades from Sallach. Beemer has coached at MSU before, Peeler is from MS and Long is from
Beam so they are all familiar with the area. I've said it 1000 times, if Sallach was getting moved to an office job when Billy G was hired, clearly that's been discussed and Sallach was ok with it.
5. Larry Porter to RB and Knox to TE would also be a home run and feasible hire.
6. Won't happen, but Hevesy to TE and bringing in an actual OL coach would also be a great move. Hevesy had been moved to TE coach under Meyer and he can keep whatever BS titles he has next to name.

I agree. I have thought this all along. and Mullen must see Sallach's limitations or he wouldn't have tried to move him to an office job.

I read a couple of articles suggesting that Diaz might be a candidate for the Auburn DC job. There was a quote from Malzahn suggesting that he'll make his hire "by the end of the week," which some are taking to mean that he's offering the job to someone whose bowl is this week. No idea if there's anything more substantial to that in those articles.

Sallach actually does a good job with his units over the years. Don't lose site of that. It's just the TE position coach really needs to be an outstanding recruiter. That's been his knock although I do like his guys this year. And while it doesn't count he did get Cord signed which at the time was a really good QB get. But as I said earlier, I want Chip Long. TE and recruiting coord (same position he has now). I would pass on Beamer personally.

Exactly. TE coach is either also the special teams coordinator or an awesome recruiter. Unfortunately he is neither, just Dan's buddy from college that was coaching at Princeton before coming to MSU.

See here is the problem....
What other SEC school would hire Sallach?? None would..
We have to stop running a ****ing country club and start hiring some top notch coaches.. We are going to get left behind everyone if we don't..
Gonzo was a great hire..

Gonzo is a great hire and good WR coach. But many have overrated his recruiting for us. Gooden is the best he has gotten committed to us since he has been here. He is a very good recruiter but for example he is primary of a very good OL in Alabama. Mid 4 star type. He works as hard as anybody in the country on recruiting but the kid is going to Bama. Is that on Gonzo? He is the primary on AJ and people are saying we are being out worked like what was floated out earlier today on Simmons. BS.
