We did a quick tasting today of Whistle Pig Rye and Angel's Envy Rye.

The Whistle Pig is a ten year old straight rye whiskey, 100 proof from Vermont. I have had a few different of their whiskeys, but not the rye, and found them to be good pours. This one was full of rye spice. Very hot on the palate with a strong rye burn. There was a depth of flavor here that I project to fact it is a 10 y/o, especially when you compare to the younger, smoother Bulliet rye.

AE is a straight rye 100 proof that is finished in a Caribbean rum cask. WOW, what a difference between the two. AE was buttery, with sort of a floral/fruitcake spice on the back side. It had not burn at all from the rye or the proof. If you are a rum fan, this is a must buy.

Both of these are great pours, and if you can find them for MSRP (around $70) are worth the price to add some variety to your shelf.
