I think part of it is due to letting the HC coach the game after he has already taken another job, his mind is on Virginia not BYU

I disagree. BYU has plenty of money. Trust me they have plenty of money. They have their TV network. There are 17 million Mormons to recruit from. They have a AP National Champioship. They have a Heisman Trophet winner. The SEC considers them an P5 level just like they do ND. Six wins gets them in a bowl game no matter what.

Being Independent really make sense for them. They are better off as a independent then being in Moutain West or what ever conference they were in. Also when one of the P5 expands they will be considered.

One down side to BYU is the school really considers atheltics as a recreation for the students. It's not about making money and their tail gating really really sucks.

I am a mormon and I hate BYU football just like you do. I have two brother inlaws who graduated from BYU and I tell them all the time their football team is dirty.

However being independent is good for them.

And yes I am a active member and I cuss. I am not a holy then thou in you face guy and I consider myself to be christian.

If it wasn't for the first ten minutes, BYU would have won. They dominated from that point on. True moral victory for BYU
