Fred's talent level and skill set still leave a lot to be desired, but it's incredible how much better his ball handling and confidence in general have been this year. Howland has definitely squeezed more than he appeared to have out of him.

Also I think that is our offense by design. Why would we have one of our best shooters setting screens. We are trying to get Newman open. Ideally when he gets the ball off a screen he either shoots it or drives to the goal for a shot or dishes it out to a shooter like he did for Fred.

Ware did lose us this game or at least made it impossible to make it competitive. This official mandate on fouling really put us in a bind and Ray never taught defense without fouling. We never learned good fundamental defense so Howland is having to break those habits on the fly.

Watch him go set a down screen. Just cause you're good as shit (he is) doesn't mean you don't have to try. That kind of shit is the reason our offense is bad. Ask any coach, the best way to get yourself open is to set a good screen for someone else.

Best way to get open is to set a good screen. Causes your defender to help. Jogging to the corner not only doesn't get malik open, but it doesn't get the guy he's "screening" for get open either.

It's going to be night and day difference from this year to next year. We just saw what horrible roster management for three years can do for you. And anyone can say what they want but Black, Houston, and that crappy SG that left wouldn't of made a dang bit of difference. The talent Ray got us was Sun Belt level. When we had our starting five out there at the beginning, we actually hung with FSU but once our better players started getting injured, return of the Rayitus Howland was left with. Luckily, Howland can recruit his ass off so in all reality we will just at have to endure this crap for one year. Thank goodness Stricklin had the foresight to grab Howland when he had the chance. Ray would have won 10-12 games with this team. Hell, he is 0-9 now and cutting players mid-season for no reason at SEMO. He was our self imposed death penalty for three years that we did for any of Stans recruiting tactics.

Getting rid of Ray to get Howland was the absolute no brainer right thing to do. We are just now having to deal with the remnants of a mismanaged no talent roster. If we would have let Ray stay one more year, a rebuild would take several years and probably no one would have touched it. Not to mention the fact that due to half the roster graduating the new coach would have had to put together a big class on the fly. I've never once complained about Howland and don't really understand why anyone would. That would be like fans complaining about Dan Mullen's first year after Croom left him with nothing. We just have to grin and bear it and flush out the seniors and welcome in next year the most talent our team has seen in over a decade.
