If we win the Egg, there will be at least a 3-way tie and most likely a 4-way tie for 2nd place in the SEC West. Us, OM, and the A&M / LSU winner would all be 5-3. Arkansas also closes with Mizzou at home, so there is a strong likelihood that they finish 5-3 as well. Not that anyone really cares how second place ties shake out, but unofficially it would be as follows.
If LSU beats A&M and Ark beats Mizzou:
- 4 way tie between MSU, OM, Ark, LSU
- MSU and Ark are both 2-1 against the other teams, LSU and OM both 1-2 against the others
- Breaking that down head-to-head, MSU beat Ark to win tiebreaker. OM beat LSU to be 3rd out of 4
- Tiebreak order would be 2 MSU, 3 Ark, 4 OM, 5 LSU
If A&M beats LSU and Ark beats Mizzou:
- 4 way tie between MSU, OM, Ark, A&M
- MSU and A&M would be 2-1 against the other 3. OM and Ark would be 1-2.
- Breaking that down head-to-head, A&M beat MSU to win overall tiebreaker. Ark beat OM to finish 3rd.
- Tiebreak order would be 2 A&M, 3 MSU, 4 Ark, 5 OM
If Ark loses to Mizzou and A&M beats LSU:
- 3 way tie between MSU, OM, A&M.
- All 3 teams are 1-1 against each other, so next tiebreak is record against 5th place team (Ark)
- MSU and A&M beat Ark, OM lost. A&M beat MSU to win tiebreaker
- Tiebreak order would be 2 A&M, 3 MSU, 4 OM
If Ark loses to Mizzou and LSU beats A&M:
- 3 way tie between MSU, OM, LSU
- All 3 teams are 1-1 against each other, so next tiebreak is record against 5th place team (A&M)
- LSU and OM would have beaten A&M and MSU lost. OM wins overall tiebreak head to head over LSU.
- Tiebreak order would be 2 OM, 3 LSU, 4 MSU
In the last scenario you can see that, by technicality according to the conference tiebreak rules, we could still finish behind OM in the final division standings even if we beat them and finish with the same record. But **** it. I'm still claiming 6 years in a row even if it comes to that so long as we take care of business next weekend. GTHOM
