Kids are eligible to sign scholarship papers at any time after the first day of school their Sr. year assuming:

* On track to graduate HS and meet credit requirements for school they sign with
* Has met necessary ACT/SAT requirements

Kids are allowed to get out of their LOI if:

* Head coach changes
* School goes on probation that includes a bowl ban
* School agrees to let player out of it

It's just turned in way too much of a drama to me. You could argue that it just means August 20th or whatever becomes NSD, but a lot of kids still want to take official visits and stuff so I don't think that's the case. Plus a lot of kids haven't made their ACT/SAT by this point. But it would solve the problem of kids "reserving" spots and coaches would know where they truly stand with kids much earlier. It will be clear if you've won or if you're just leading or in contention.

Plus protects kids from committing early and then getting dropped by a school late in the process which is something I always hate to see happen.
