Maybe he was guaranteed early playing time. He won't go to Bama because Saban redshirts every QB. Mullen redshirts everyone if possible (Damian Williams was the exception). Maybe Freeze went all Kevin Sumlin and guaranteed Patterson he'd start his freshmen year. I take Freeze as a character that would tell a recruit anything to get a signature.
