I'm guessing it will be a severe thunderstorm watch and not a tornado watch but I didn't read the mesoscale discussion to see for sure.

80% Chance of Severe Thunderstorm Watch being issued. Major threats, Hail and Damaging Wind Gusts. Low chance of tornadoes.

I think there is a real possibility this game isn't played tonight. If the forecasts are close to being accurate anyway. A la the lsu opener.

Yep, not sure why you would want to risk having 50,000 people gathered at a stadium with even a reasonable chance of hail or a tornado. I lived that in the 2003? Troy game and it was not fun.

So, here is the question:

If the game isn't played tonight, can we play tomorrow night or Saturday?

I'll be furious if our game with Mizzou gets canceled this year. That virtually eliminates us from the SEC West race. All the tie breakers that would favor us if we won out, would no longer favor us.

If we don't play tonight, we MUST play Friday or Saturday. No excuses.

The NCAA dictates that all football players are required to be in class on the Friday after Thursday night games... Not sure how that works if it is postponed?

Surely there's an exception if it's a road game. If it's played tonight and there's no delays the game is over around 11:30. Probably to the airport by 1:00 and then 3:00 arriving at GTR. That would put them 3:30-4:00 getting back to their dorm or apartment.

Problem is storms aren't supposed to get into the area until right before kick.

Surely that cannot apply to teams playing on the road.

There is no exception. Carskadon tweeted about it last week. Said that there was no way that he would make it to any of his classes after a Thursday night game if he was a student athlete, but that the students are expected and required to be in class even if they get in at 5 a.m and even if their first class is at 8 a.m.

Well in this case there won't be a Thursday night game. NCAA is a bunch of hypocrites anyway.

Bob Carskadon:
"Mullen mentions the tough part of a road Thursday game on his teleconference: players have to go to class the next day. Not allowed to miss."

"Zero percent chance I'd make it to an 8 o'clock class after flying home from Missouri after midnight. Or any o'clock class, really."

I don't think they're going to reschedule. There might be a weather delay, though.

What could the NCAA do? What's the penalty? Nevermind. I forgot we have Bracky. He'd suspend the entire team for next week's game against Alabama if our players are two minutes late getting into class.

I was curious so I looked up the lightning policy.

The current NCAA policy requires that play be suspended if there is lightning within 8 miles of the stadium. It requires a 30 minute delay, but this may vary because the time count will restart if a lightning strike occurs within the 8 mile radius.

Nothing to worry about boys, just a little moisture so dak doesn't go in dry. I'm 2 hrs out and it's just a steady rain.

Sorry Redmond, you will have to be suspended for your first 37 pro games by order of Bracky and the NCAA.

Here's my question. There has got to be a local time at which games must be stopped. I know it's that way in high school. I can't remember if there is in college or not. But I have to imagine there's a time the game has to stop.

Lightning will be rather prolific in the stronger storms. I just saw one severe thunderstorm warning in SW MO right now is showing 70mph winds and quarter size hail.

I don't think there is, but I could certainly be wrong.

That would probably have more to do with the city of Columbia and less to do with the NCAA.

Don't know for sure but I doubt it. Too much money involved from ESPN and sponsors to just pull the plug during the middle of a game.

Anything building behind that or will it be done after it comes through?

Everything is associated with this frontal system, but the system is quite large. Also have to remember that the hotter the ground is before these storms roll in, the stronger the storms will be which increases the chance for damage from these. This will be full of thunderstorms, so I'm already going to be counting on a few delays rolling in.

Our bubble is permanently affixed to the ground. We cannot move it, else we risk MSU getting blown away.

First tornado warning NW of Springfield. Looks ugly on radar. Possible debris signature.

The short-term mesoscale models are trending toward the main line of storms clearing Columbia just after kickoff. A second but weaker line of showers rolls through a couple hours later. I'm hoping for only a delay to the start of the game. If the 2nd line is weak enough, it'll be just showers with no lightning.

First line looks like it may push south of Columbia. Broken, more discrete cells back behind it.

starkvegasdawg
11-05-2015, 05:36 PM
Ok. I'm starting to be cautiously optimistic Columbia dodges a bullet. Light rain now moving in but the storms are weakening and staying to the south. The secondary line looks like it may stay to the north. If there is no additional development then the stadium may see 45 minutes of light rain and that be it. Fingers crossed.
