So I was told today that Erroll Thompson, CJ Morgan-Walker and Christian Roberson were all 3* athletes according to all of the media outlets. I thought my work colleague was joking. I'm not affiliated with paid sites, and I don't care to get a subscription to any of them. But how are athletes like Erroll rated as 3* athletes? Erroll is like Dont'a Hightower, but he hits harder. He's definitely a future NFL player. When I heard he committed to us over Alabama, I was in complete shock (and yes, he has a legit Alabama offer). So again, how does the star system work?

If you have solid D1 talent you get 3 stars. If you show interest in an elite school you get 4 stars. If you commit to an elite school you get 5 stars.

Some networks are different I think. Not sure. Scout I think does x amount of 5*(maybe 50 not sure), x ammout of 4*(250ish), unlimited 3*.

If you are offered by Alabama, you are a four star.
If you commit to Alabama, you are a five star.

If you are offered by State, you are a developmental two star.
If you commit to State, you are a low three star.

If you are offered by UNM, you are listed on ESPN,s top 300.
If you commit to UNM, you are just as likely to be cleaning toilets as playing football in four years.

If he plays DE for us, he'll be another AJ Jefferson type player. I think we slim him down some and keep him at ILB.

This sounds about right

So, in other words, no one has a clue how stars are assigned.

Neither do the people assigning them. It's a complete farce to sell subscriptions, magazines, and give the delusional fan bases a late winter chubby. But it does alter perceptions of people and can make people "believe" your team is better than it actually is.

Auburn is a prime example

BTW, the Georgia QB Bauta was an 88 rated QB out of HS & Dak Prescott was an 85
