You'll put a porn section on this website but you take down the political section because it might offend people? Think about the recruits' parents who come to this site and see that there is a section devoted to porn. How will they perceive our university?

The last two sentences were a little sarcastic since recruits being influenced by message boards has been the big topic of discussion the last few days, but still, a little two faced isn't it?

My two cents as a member- maybe we should make the political section private like the art/porn section?

I don't have a problem with the porn/art section, except that the political board was taken down to get rid of a problem that adding that section could potentially cause just as well.

I, for one, enjoyed the political section. It gives me something to read when the sport news is slow

It is pretty damn obvious the 3 or 4 posters that shouldnt be able to post on the political forum. Not because because of their opinion (they can think what they like), but the fact that recruits parents read it.

Make it read only or private and make sure bully13, will james and cadaver (even though I like his sports post) cant post. They are going to offend a recruits parent eventually.

I do agree about making it private. Now that I've investigated the platinum plus section, I like how it is set up, and I'm all for making the political board like that.

Plus you have to get access.

Damn you C34. You just told everyone I have access to the platinum plus "porn" site.

I think the same approach could work for the political board. Announcement said it was on a "timeout" which doesn't mean it's going away. I think it just needed to calm down a bit.

Have to admit, I missed it a bit today too.

I dont understand what is so hard about not spewing political bullshit on a sports message board. There are places for certain things like... fun and then there are places for politics. Go join a political message board if you must. I deal with politics and such in my every day life (nature of job) and the last thing I want to see when I come here is politics. Now, none of those women are naked so I don't think that qualifies as porn.

Yes, porn.

Porn- television shows, articles, photographs, etc., thought to create or satisfy an excessive desire for something, especially something luxurious

But that's beside the point. They removed the political section because of perception, but then they add a section devoted to risqué photos of girls.

They should have both or none. They are each just as damaging if the right people view them.

Who are the "right" people? You think a recruit's mom will find her way to ED and keep her son from committing to the bulldogs based on the same thing her son might see on MTV or BET at night? If her son visits the ole miss he will likely experience more perversion at the library than he would ever see at ED. Now, some of the things that are said on the political board might be harmful and used against us.

I didn't know there was a political board, but I'm far too politically ignorant to contribute to it anyways. I'm guessing the problem may have come from there being far too few people knowing the same about themselves.

I doubt there's too many political experts here, but it's still nice to read everyone's opinion even if I don't agree with it. I'm certainly no expert on politics, but I feel much smarter (and sometimes dumber) just from reading the political board. I for one miss it.

Look, I'm not here to knock on the PP board because of what it contains. I enjoy what it contains just as much as anyone else here. In my opinion, it was a few people being offensive for the sake of being offensive. Knowing some political topics are highly controversial and kept repeating those views in different ways over and over again. On both sides - conservative and liberal.

I believe it's possible to discuss political issues without generalizing and stereotyping whole groups of people. However, it seemed that most of the people who frequented the politics board wielded their political views as a weapon to bash "those other bad people" - whoever they may be. That type of stuff doesn't serve us, especially when OM fans were gleefully taking screenshots of offensive and sometimes outright hateful comments to use against us.

There was no place for it on a sports board. Not on a MSU board for MSU people where most of us clearly care about the success or failure of our athletics.

Bottom line, decisions are made on this board that will always keep our University at best interest. Beautiful women are a part of that University- so why not? Bigotry and poor taste are not something we will condone- therefore, we have made decisions in how to handle it.

You could always go read what the Papa Johns manager has to say over on the other board. I hear he can drive a delivery car like Andretti himself.

This is a ridiculous comparison. Women HELP recruit kids for crying out loud. Parents understand that little man is going to score when he gets to college, especially an SEC school that is chock full of fine lookin ladies! Just because a message board has a section dedicated to hot girls in various states of undress, doesn't mean that the school has a philosophical outlook that will be a barrier to the feeling of acceptance. It's not like they are going to see hustler type stuff anyways.

This is not a good comparison at all.

First of all, the pictures that are posted on the PP board are on par with the pictures in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue or a Maxim. And describing the board as a porn section is completely ridiculous and misleading, regardless of how Webster's defines the term.

Second, people are generally more passionate about their politics than almost anything else....it is about as polarizing a topic as there is. The fact that a lot of men enjoy looking at very attractive, scantily clad women is not very polarizing.

So no, they shouldn't have both or none. Sure, there is a chance that somebody could get offended by the board, but the chance of that happening is no where near the chance of someone coming across the political board and getting offended.....you are comparing apples and oranges.

I guess it could intimidate some people, some people probably see how ludicrous and unreasonable it is to enter into a discussion with that thought process too though

I don't think that at all. I think Will has thought his beliefs through and demonstrates that fact that he is not a relativist on any level. I disagree with him on most issues, but I respect his intelligence and his passion.

I think absolutism can be a problem for him and others on issues that are new and in flux. Immediately knowing what's right can make one wrong as time passes.
