Why is that anywhere on the field of play, if a player with possession of the ball and their knee touches the ground they are down at that spot. What's the deal with the holder on extra-points and field goals? Should they not be down if their knee is on the ground, if they do anything other than hold for the kick? Even the announcer said the holder raised up and threw the ball to the kicker. Replayed showed his knee still on the ground when he threw the ball.... Just asking...

I'm pretty sure the holder on a field goal is the exception to that rule.

Because the ball has to remain live for the kicker to kick it. Best I can tell

That is the exception to the rule. Long ago the holder had to hover his knee above the ground but they changed it.
