Rule Question

I noticed in other games and our game today the refs would signal for a touch back even though the receiving team didn't down the ball. If the ball is live after it goes 10 yards why signal touch back?

once it goes into the end zone, it will be a touchback if it doesn't come back out. I think this even hold true even if you touch it, but never possess it.

I just thought if it wasn't possessed then kicking team could recover.

I found the rule:

ARTICLE 7
When a free kick untouched by Team B (receiving team) touches the ground on
or behind Team B?s goal line, the ball becomes dead and belongs to Team B
