I think the media just goes down NFL mock drafts and the number of tackles a player had when determining LBs. No way little Kemdiche is 1st team, and no way UK's Williamson is better than McKinney - but he had 130+ tackles so he must be good.*

Nkimdiche is good, but he isn't first team All-SEC good. There's no way in hell I'd trade Mckinney for Nkimdiche, and Mckinney didn't even make any of the lists. You don't get points for getting your brother to come to school with you. Anyone who believes that he's one of the three best linebackers in the league has lost their damn mind.

The Alabama bias is pretty clear too. Does anyone else notice that CJ Mosely got more first team votes than Clowney? What a farce.

Also, where is Baker Sweedenburg? He might have been the best punter in the SEC last year, and he only allowed 13 return yards all season.

There are definitely some head-scratchers on there.

good call on Swedenburg- he should probably be 1st team and isnt even mentioned

Things to remember:

The media didnt pick the A&M explosion, Vandy winning 9 games, or Auburn going 2-10

Yeah, I think we all need to remember that this thing is held in Birmingham by a media that is largely from the state of Alabama, and if the vote deals with a non-Alabama/Auburn player, they usually go with the guys that have the most hype and name recognition. The fact that the two players from Alabama make the team and Swedenburg didn't tells you all you need to know about what they know about SEC punters. When in doubt, go with the guys from Alabama.

so if we beat LSU this year it already looks like another classic ..."but they were bad this year" cliche

Wow, NO MSU player on 1st, 2nd or 3rd team defense.

Agreed. And it's the damndest thing I've ever seen. Our fans can't even get excited about beating SEC 'haves' Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Tennessee. They have to make excuses. I enjoyed the hell out of every one of those games.

It is absurd for some of our fans to say this stuff. Does UM talk about how they caught Auburn and Arkansas down last year? No. They talk about how Freeze beat those teams in his first year and Mullen didn't beat them until his fourth. Even though everyone knows how bullshit that comparison is, considering how good those teams were in Mullen's first three year as opposed to how bad they were in Freeze's first year, they keep sticking by that party line and a lot of our fans accept it as fact for some reason... But then when it comes time for us to take credit for beating UGA; Florida; Tennessee; etc. we talk about how those teams were down. So our fans accept that UM can brag about beating down teams and we can't? It makes no sense, especially considering that UGA and Florida were better in 2010 than Arkansas and Auburn were last year.

I'm sick of some of our fans not pointing out our positives; those people need to grow a pair.

What do the asterisks next to certain players mean?

It'll be interesting to compare this to the post-season list.

They were in a tie with someone else in the voting.

Agreed, they are a bunch of pussies. Deep down they think that we'll get beat in the end anyway, so no use pumping us up and getting embarrassed. I ask, who cares? I can take it.

I don't give a damn if Auburn was horrible last season. We got them second game of the season, so how the hell would they--or anyone else--know if they were horrible. Hell, they did lose to LSU 12-10. That anal pounding WE put on that tiger tail was what started the spiral. After the Cam Newton fiasco, there is no other team next to the bears that I have relished embarrassing more.
