1st half was a disaster. 2nd half we showed some guts but still I dont think we were ever truly interested in this game. We were playing with about 10 percent of our playbook in the first half offensively. I dont understand why Shump didnt get more carries between the tackles he looked better as the game went on. I know he screwed up big time early with the fumble but everybody here knows he is a better inside RB than Holloway (who had a great game tonight). Dak missed a couple throws but also had some drops. I thought he played good not great but good. Ran the ball well. My biggest gripe was why we didnt try to just pound their asses like we know we can instead of throwing it so much. Defensively outside of getting pressure with just sending 4 a few times I was very disappointed. I know Diaz wasnt gonna show LSU anything but I wanted to see us attack more, we didnt. I never wanted to see another corner blitz, I did. Showed a new wrinkle early with Chris Jones at LB he played well then he kind of disappeared. He may have been pulled out I cant remember. We sat in zone mainly cover 2....sigh and got ate up over the middle. Didnt tackle very well. I think the argument that some have made about Mullen micro managing the D is looking to be more than a rumor. Im sure we will see more next week but still we could have played much better on D.
Special teams had some great and some shitty. Blocked punt, KO return TD, all EPS and FGS made is great. But muffing a punt, muffing 2 KOs was pure garbage.
I think we will see a much more motivated team next saturday night in starkvegas. I still think we get it done, to put it in perspective Baylor, Mich State both did not play their best on the road vs a smaller in state rival this week. Nobody is hating on them for it. Overall I give us a B at best for tonight but I expect it to be much higher next week. 1-0. LSU is catching hell next week.
