View Full Version : We are "not a big name program" since we haven't sold out the Rock...

In the 8 days since they released tickets....

That's some serious spinning right there

It's a shame that they have a 36000 seat stadium and we have to bring 35990 fans to sell it out.

Stuff like this is the price you pay for scheduling a home & home with an irrelevant program.

The fact it isn't a hard sell out is pitiful on both schools account. Therefore, them talking smack is...stones from a glass house.

However, if this was a 6pm kickoff AND USM didn't hold tickets until the last few weeks........it would be a sell out.

But people I know are NOT interested because;

1. Labor weekend is lake weekend when State is on the road or not playing.
2. It is on TV
3. We have a huge home game next weekend.

I know one family that has a son in the band at USM. They are not going because of the kickoff time.

I can't imagine a team where this would be an easy sellout. By all accounts, it will be a blowout. A boring game at a dreadful kickoff time at the home field of a small and apathetic fanbase. Which of these is supposed to drive a sellout?

Maroonthirteen
09-01-2015, 09:20 AM
Bama, Auburn and LSU would buy up every ticket.

But to be fair......they have much much larger fan bases because of their history and state population. Any sane State fan doesn't claim to be Bama or AU or LSU either (as the USMs infer in the thread).

Those USM fans must be idiots though desparaging State for not buying ALL the tickets to their home opener. That's just some dumb logic. There shouldn't be any tickets for us to buy.

Jack Lambert, I agree. However, I will be disappointed if The Rock is not mostly Maroon. This is the last season to witness the best QB in modern day MSU history. I plan to attend three games this season. I'll be leaving tomorrow from Kansas City to attend. Let's filler up with Maroon!

Didn't those have us losing to LSU, then Texas A&M, then Auburn last year?

Yet all three were games that we won and it was really not as close as the scoreboard shows

They need to ease off the crap talk and realize how damned lucky they are that we agreed to subsidize their football program at all.

The game will sell out, due to at least a 2,000 person walk-up.

Secondly, just a reminder to USM fans

I am not going to comment on people not attending games because everyone has their own reasons but I will be disappointed if this game is not a sellout. I'd like to think we'd sell it out even if Southern fans bought zero tickets. I don't care if it does give their program money. I think every ticket that a State fan buys goes hand in hand with the on field domination to show them how superior we are to them.

AlSwearengen

I overheard three women talking while they walked on the treadmill at the gym this morning. They were discussing the game and one mentioned that her daughter tried to buy four tickets a couple of weeks ago and usm wouldn't sell it to them, nor would they tell her when she could buy them, so they just decided not to worry with it.

There are just too many things going against the game to make it very interesting. Last years blow out, game time, usm's ridiculous handling of tickets, etc.

We would have easily sold out the stadium by ourselves if they had let us. But people tend to make plans for labor day weekends period and people tend to make plans to watch the first football game of the year (if not every football game). I don't know anybody that didn't have some sort of plans for this week in place at least two weeks ago. Either going to the game, going to the beach, or just planning a decent sized get together to watch college football on Saturday. Now that USM has finally released the tickets, most people aren't going to change their plans to go to a 9pm kickoff in a blowout game. People would have wanted to get hotel rooms well before last week if they were planning to come to this game. I still think there's a decent chance there are 2000 people that will buy on game day, but at the same time, I know a lot of USM people that bought tickets and aren't necessarily planning on going, so the walkup traffic may suckup all those tickets rather than buying from the ticket office.

We need to sell it out and have a huge maroon contingency there to see this slaughter. I want to completely embarrass them in every way. I want them to be embarrassed about their team walking out to a bunch of boos in their home stadium because we took it over and I want them to be humiliated by the beat down we give them.

Also to be fair, most Bama fans have never seen the team play in person. When was the last time Bama played a low non conference game on the road? Yeah it hasn't happened in like 30 years. Bama would sell out most places when its not a 9 pm start, on tv, during a holiday weekend.

Most of them wouldn't miss it because they didn't have it the previous month because they quit their job at the meth lab to get in line early for fan day. They did get an autographed picture of Saban for the mini fridge though.

I am tired of this bullshit measuring stick to LSU and Bama. Those ass hats never play a low nonconference game at the other teams stadium. I put this challenge out there, someone name the last time Bama played a low nonconference team, not P5 on the road at their stadium?

LSU and Bama both have over 40k enrollment undergrad. They better have the fans to sell out every game no matter location. Did they even sell out their bowl game against Oklahoma a couple of years ago? That is flippin Oklahoma, not really USM.

There were plenty of seats available at the Sugar Bowl when Oklahoma smoked them. Not sure if that was technically a sell-out, but definitely not a full stadium. And Oklahoma brought a crowd, so it's not like Bama had to fill it up by themselves.

Here ya go for SEC West:

Alabama - 1992 - @Tulane (2-9) W37-0

Arkansas - 1999 - @SMU (4-6) W26-0

Auburn - 1976 - @Memphis (7-4) L27-28

LSU - 2007 - @Tulane (4-8) W34-9

Ole Miss - 2015 @Memphis (TBD) L?????

Texas A&M - 2014 @SMU (1-11) W58-6

....even before looking this up I knew Auburn would actually be the worst offender. There was one year where they played 8 out of 11 games at home... and one of the other 3 was versus Bama at Legion Field.

They keep saying that Alcorn had a bigger draw than us. I guess they think in their racist way thats a insult or something. I suspect there will be way more MSU fans at their stadium then they had with alcorn. It's their fan base that isn't holding up their end of the bargan.

OM played at Tulane in 2010 - w 27-13

I'll go one better than AU - UGA
Last time UGA played an away at a non-P5 was a loss at Tulane in 1972. They have never played an away game like that in my life time!

Yep, this is all on USM. 5 years ago this is a sellout b/c USM fans would have bought most of the tix and MSU would have scooped up the rest. But their fans have abandoned that program so they are asking MSU to pick up the slack.

But that kickoff time is killer. You basically eliminate any kids under the age of 10 which means the parents have to find something to do with them. If a parent has to stay at home with a kid that would normally go you've cut a lot of your available fan based by 50-66%.

If game was at 6 we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

This is stupid especially since we are probably going to have at least 2000 walk ups on game day.

And as far as the Alcorn BS- they had 26448 in a stadium that seats 36000. So, if they're 2K short and don't sell any tickets (which they will) there will be 34K at the game.
