Last night was a big scrimmage, has anyone heard anything about players who stood out? Did we avoid the injury bug?

This is Mullen's most talented squad it's just not as experienced as last year. These true & RS Freshmen are very talented guys & are going to win a lot of games over their careers.

I think so too. I love how the media always mentions Manny's last year at Texas as a reason we will regress, but they fail to mention Kevin Steele's last game as a D coordinator when WVU hung 70 on him.

From what I hear the defense is still outperforming the offense but that's because Dak is hardly scrimmaging at all.. getting a lot of work in for the backups now that Staley is scrimmaging again.

Apparently our young defensive guys are really showing out. It's gonna be hard to keep some of them off the field. At the very least we should have a stout ST unit even if they don't get much action on defense.

Manny gets the last year at Texas unfairly thrown in his face. That entire team was lost and out of control. It wouldn't have mattered if Saban was the DC, the players quit on Manny

Agreed. Manny will shut them up this year. I'm looking forward to watching his defense against Auburn. I remember when we played them in 2010. It seemed like we new what play they were running before the snap. Also can't wait to see our defense turn up the heat on Brandon Harris week 2

Manny's D at La Tech was a salty bunch. He had a bunch of 2* guys getting after it! I do believe he had a top five secondary his second year there.

I would guess Keith Joseph as he is mentioned by a lot of the players as showing out

QB's don't suck. Best collection of QB's in MSU history. QB battle next year is going to be great to watch. Offense has athletes everywhere. We won't miss a beat in '16. Staley is more talented but Fitz looks good too. SEC QB presence out of both of them. RB will be by committee.. will be a drop off IMO.. offensive scheme will adjust to this. New team new scheme from 2015

Hate to be negative Nellie, but I still have visions of the Ole Miss defense running around and through our OL to get to Dak and Robinson. I really, really, hope we will be better on the OL because we have a terrific QB, great RB's and W/R's.

Donald Gray on offense, but if you've been paying attention, you should know he has a chance to be special. RBs, top to bottom, are better than last year, but the talent at receiver is otherworldly. I expect to see a lot of stretching the field with Wilson/Morrow, and then getting the ball in space to our slot guys. We have a lot of them. I expect us to throw it more this year because of that. Offensive line will be fine.

On defense, Gerri Green is going to be special. McLaurin is going to be playing a lot - a headhunter. We have an outstanding, deep group of linebackers.

Biggest questions for me with this team is depth on the DL, kicking, and Dan being Dan. We've never been in better shape from a talent perspective.

I hope this isn't a ridiculous question, but if feel it may be relevant: Peters or McClaurin?

The fact that this is even a question may mean we are about to see an unbelievable era of safety play at MSU.

At some point this year, I'd expect to see them both out there.

One more defensive player to watch: JT Gray.

Yikes....

So McClaurin is another player that should have been rated higher?

I can see how this happens at safety though. How would scouts have known that McClaurin has great instincts & ball skills when playing against offenses that hardly through the ball?

To be fair he was a 4* on 247 after the MS/AL game. People just didn't notice because all of the talk was on Peters.

True, but it was very late he was given that grade & Peters was a boarder line 5* & one of the most highly recruited players in the Southeast. The perception was that Peters was a 5* & McClaurin a high 3*. The great thing is that this has nothing to do with Peters and everything to do with McLaurin. It appears that we landed two elite safeties in last year's class.

and we still had over 400 yards of offense. We had a bad gameplan in the 1st half. We adjusted in the 2nd and did much better. It was more about coaching than our OL. Not sure how many more times this needs to be said

And I don't have any trouble admitting that OM had a VERY stout defense last year, probably will again this year. Yards aren't easy to come by when you are playing a Top 10 in the nation type defense like we did playing on road at both AL and OM.

I count 3 in 2014 (Jenkins, Cochran, Calhoun) and 3 in 2015 (Williams, Moon and Story). Add in the JUCOs and that's an average haul to me.

I think we can use OL depth as an innovative strength. It's the heart of your football team, so let's go above and beyond there. JMHO. I've seen OL weaknesses break many a programs.

The game I saw was their DL running around Clausell and Senior and through the middle to get to Dak and Robinson. We did adjust somewhat in the second half but, unless my eyes were deceiving me, they still knocked us off the ball a bunch of times. All I'm saying is that I hope we will be a lot better OL this year because if we are, we could be a contender for the SECW. I think we will be fine everywhere else.
