I've always enjoyed visiting and reading about old baseball stadiums. While they all had a certain charm or mystique, few actually looked nice from the outside. Ebbets field has always stood out to me. While I am much too young to have been able to experience it first-hand, the pictures show a structure that is quite different from most sports stadiums. It looked more like a real building than a sports stadium.

I think an updated or new Dudy Noble would look great if it were modeled, externally, after Ebbets. It would perfectly match the theme of the campus with the classic brick and columns. Heck, it even resembles the DWS expansion.

What say you?

I'd say A&M beat us to it.

That said, if our new (fingers crossed) ballpark looks like we straight up ripped off A&M, I wouldn't mind too much.

It's actually not all that uncommon in modern baseball for them to try to match it to the city...

The biggest problem I see is that the current location of DNF really won't allow it to be very visible, due to the Hump and the Palmeiro center.

Very true. Unless you turned it 90-180* and put home plate in what is currently right/centerfield...

I think it would be great to put home at the current RF corner. That would make for a more grand facade facing towards the center of campus and the main parking area.

But, fields just aren't oriented that way because of the sun.

It might have been discussed on here before, but Camden Yards has a similar problem with a building so close. The link I used shows an entrance that is much like the Hump is for Dudy Noble. I think it was an old train station. The lady who designed Camden Yards is the MSU alum who spoke at graduation. Could home plate be put in left/center field and have the hump as a back drop in right field similar to Camden? The sun situation would be almost the same as now. Sorry for the long post - I hope you guys understand what I trying to say.

This pic will give you the idea of what the hump would look like behind right field (I'm still using examples from Camden).

The LF corner is essentially no man's land as far as access. Everyone would be entering from he outfield somewhere. Plus, what would we do with the lounge? The Hump isn't unattractive, but it's not something I would want to use as a focal point.

Maybe being disguised in it's current place can work in our favor. We can get away with not having to dress up as much of the exterior and save some $.

The lounge doesn't change. You would just rotate the field and put them behind the fence there. Obviously you wouldn't back them right up against the Hump. With most of the parking where it's at now, people still have to walk around the field to get to a gate so that doesn't change either. The Hump needs renovations anyway (those God-awful round globe lights especially need to go & it just looks outdated). Maybe with some renovations to it it could work. It was just a thought.
