View Full Version : "Take a Stand"?

Does anybody else see this Hugh Freeze slogan as a head scratcher? Seems like the name of a revival, while seeming very hard to relate to football. When you have as much talent as they have, they should have a "lead from the front" slogan or something right? Not an underdog mantra like "Take a stand".

Maybe I'm alone in my "wtf" thought every time I see or hear that phrase. Ha

Personally I think all these slogans that teams adopt are stupid. Just practice hard and go win your games. I don't think a preseason slogan has ever been the difference in winning big.

Reporter asking national champion qb, "what was the difference this year?"

Qb, "it was the preseason slogan. Without that slogan, we would've went 6-6."

Haven't seen it. I rarely see any MSU or OM tv ads on tv around here.

Here was their inspiration for this slogan.

Yeah, I saw it last week. When I heard the intro dialogue from "The Martian" I thought I was having a stroke....but I wasn't. WTF.

The Aussie at the end with the "Take a Stand" sounds awfully familiar, and Freeze subscribing to him wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I think they had to revise it from "take the money".

That's just the short version. The entire slogan is "Take a stand (and some pillows and radios if you can fit them in your bag)".

The last time the confederates "took a stand" it led to the bloodiest 4 years in American history.

I agree, it's beyond stupid. I remember 'win the day' - straight up gay. What's with the have to have a catch phrase every year deal? What was it last year? Now Freeze's twin Jones at UT is coming up with them. I forgot what it was but it was terrible. Almost embarrassing. Thank God we don't feel the need to cheese it up like that.

Though different contextually, "This is Our State" is a bit regrettable, at least IMO.

I thought This Is Our State was perfect- still do. It created alot of pride and rallied our fanbase. And we were hammering Northern Miss at the time.

I agree with the pride and rally cry stuff; it's definitely true, but lets not act like we don't delve into the cheesy hyperbole.

It was great those few years, fa sho, but I knew we couldn't maintain that dominance forever. Your going to lose to your rival every now and then. It's difficult to talk about "Our State" when we go 0-7 versus those clowns, lol. It will be much more palatable after the ass whipping we hand down in the EB this November though, not to mention basketball being resurrected.

To me, it's just like when they spout that "Flagship" BS.

I figured "See something. Say something." would be a more appropriate slogan for them.

at least the "our state" stuff was original. Freezus borrows an already used up slogan to use each year. Hell, after this year's graduation and early entry losses for them- I'm expecting "Where's The Beef???" To their slogan next year

In high school our Cross Country team's slogan was "Run like you stole something." Probably used by other teams, but it was simple, to the point, and somewhat motivating to yell right before a race started.

"Take a stand" seems awfully coincidental given the whole State flag debate...

I actually it started as "take the stand." It was for support with the keechies beat down, elston, bobby hill, stringfellow, brunetti, golson, and most recently the Tunsil situation. I think it just stuck. They changed it a bit and voila....the new slogan. Take a stand with relentless effort while going all in to win the day. WANM

they should use "are you ready" every year and we should use "Our State" every year.

Take a Stand sounds like their OT's defense against the prosecution. It reminds me of Newton's "all in."
