Severely injured his shoulder during a boxing match in the locker room, WOW. Hate it for the kid, but I think this speaks volumes about the coaching staff down there to allow something of the nature to occur; even in the locker room at that. But I thought they led the league in character development?***

first a DT now an OG- thats 2 big ones down for Northern Miss

Exactly, what are they NY Jets?

If this indeed happened in the locker room, I'm assuming boxing match needs some (" ") placed around it, considering Geno Smith was also injured practicing his sparing techniques as well....

And they were already fairly thin at those two positions if I'm not mistaken

Herbert Moore

Who's the DT?

I think Herbert More.. Don't think he was on the 2 deep. But still stings to lose a big guy in August.. I'm sure he would have gotten a few meaningful snaps

Well, I heard them say CK is ten times the QB Bo was so I doubt he really needs an offensive line in front of him. ***

UNM should be able to play a man down on both the offense and defensive lines and be okay, right? Kemdeechee can occupy 4 blockers at a time and Big Softie should be able to block at least one DE, one DT, and one LB simultaneously.

Reporting now he's only out 2-3 weeks and will play through the injury. If you believe tsun sources.

LOL! And to think I was just joking all these years with my " Boys Town" references with Freeze playing the part of Spencer Tracy!

Father Freeze put the gloves on his scrappy delinquents and got this for his efforts.

Unless of course 320 LB boxers are the oncoming trend. If this is the training method for O Linemen these days I'll be the first to apologize. Maybe.

Excellent movie and Voigt did a masterful job as a high school football coach in Texas.

I'm with you. I despise all things Northern Miss, but this is a pretty good physical training method. Not sure about modern athletes. At least it was ~18 years ago when I was in the Army. We used to box/fight once a month in replacement for our normal PT schedule, and let me tell you it will smoke your ass. It'll also make you remember that old adage, "don't judge a book by its cover".

I know they used to box during offseason workouts at EMCC a few years ago.. don't know of any programs boxing 3 weeks before kickoff though

I don't think this was supervised by the coaches or a trainer
And you would think after practice players might want to hit meetings or rehab or therapy ..
If our guys still had enough energy to be "boxing" after practice I would be very worried..

Or maybe Taylor got into a fight in the locker room and they're trying to cover it up.

You would think there's better cover-ups for a shoulder injury. If it was a broken jaw then I could see them fabricating a "boxing match" story.

Freeze should go ahead and add Stephens to his staff so Patterson will be ready to play

John Weiner was saying on Home Cooking yesterday that his "sources" were telling him it's not that big of a deal and that Taylor will miss two games tops.

This. I've heard a fight referred to as "boxing" on multiple occasions.

If this really is a labrum tear, 2-3 weeks will only give the inflammation time to subside. Labrum injuries are nagging injuries that flare up regularly with no notice. He'll likely contend with this all season until post-season surgery. Regardless of what UNM sources are saying, this injury will affect his game all season long. (full disclosure, i tore my labrum almost 5 years ago and elected not to have surgery...and it still will flare up on me occasionally)

Actually this is more like a torn labia than a torn labrum.***
