Ifyouonlyknew and others that keep up closely with our basketball recruiting efforts, I was wondering what the latest is on James Banks and Herard? Banks seemed like a hot name early on, but I haven't heard much about him lately. Are we still on him and wanting him? And it seems like we have stayed pretty consistent with Herard. Just wondering the latest with these two bigs, it would be great to get either of them to go with Lard. Hopefully we can get them on campus soon.

Hope everyone gets these questions out of the way before August 3rd. Ifyouonlyknew is going to be VERY busy after that.

to pile on - is there a pecking order b/w the 2 in the eyes of our staff? IDK of a backup plan at the 5, so what are the chances we get 1 of the 2?

We're on both equally hard. I don't think there's a 1,2 order. I'm sure we'd take both but as long as you get 1 we are good. Herard would provide a more immediate impact but I think Banks ceiling is higher.

Battling Kansas, UCONN, Arizona St, and now Arizona (offered a couple days ago) for Herard. Banks is up to 23 offers now and his recruitment seems pretty wide open. We are on both equally as hard and most seem to think we will land at least one of the two. Seems a bit optimistic to me, but I'd love for that to be the case. We have offered one more 2016 center and that's 3* Iran Bennett from Bull City Prep in NC.

Herard has those offers but he's not a priority for any of the schools you named maybe UCONN. We're treating him like a priority & he knows that. Same with Banks. Thing about Banks he was already very interested with MSU before Howland was hired. Now he has a proven head coach & an asst coach he has a previous relationship with in Korey McCray. That's where the feeling that we get at least 1 of these bigs come from.

Any news on 'who' or 'when' the next commit might happen?

Thanks!

Herard sounds like the better option to me based on what scoring he can give us early. If Banks isn't able to be dominant until year 2 or 3, we may have already lost guys like Kegler, Heron, or Peters before he comes into his own. I'm sure Howland will replace any early departees adequately, but I want to get the most out of the C position while this next class is still intact.

Banks seems to be more of a shot blocking presence, but we're gonna need somebody to come in & be able to score in the paint immediately. Fallou will be coming off the bench, & while I think Howland will turn him into a defensive specialist, I don't see him being an offensivel threat. I think I'd rather have consistent scoring in year 1 from the position than an all around game that needs developing. That said, I do enjoy watching Banks' tape better than Herard's & he looks like a future star. Just not sure if he'll be on campus long enough for us to see his ceiling.
