Austin Riley update

Austin hit his 5th home run of the year today, and it was a grand slam. Overall, Austin has hit 5 HR, 5 2Bs, and is slugging well over .500 in his last 75 at bats in professional ball. This is after he started the year 1 for 21 at the plate. Since that 1 for 21 start, he is averaging a home run every 15 at bats, and half his hits are extra base hits. This young man has a very bright future in the Braves organization. It wouldn't surprise me to see him reach the AA team in Mississippi late in 2017 with a chance to make it to Atlanta in 2018 or 2019.

FWIW, Riley has shown far more power so far than any other HS hitter in this year's draft. He could have transformed us offensively.

Riley hit another bomb today. That's 6 home runs in his last 79 at bats of minor league ball. He's got the 4th highest ISO of all hitters in the GCL right now, and among the 17-18 year old players in the league, he's got the 2nd highest ISO. The highest is his teammate Isranel Wilson, who is slugging .426 with a .191 batting average. He just about gets an extra base hit whenever he hits the ball.

Interestingly enough, Chase Vallot has been one of the better power hitters from last year's high school class with a .170 ISO.

Considering that the Braves farm system has gone from a bottom 5 farm system one year ago to Keith Law's #2 rated farm system in just one year, I'd say the new front office and scouting staff have done quite a lot in rebuilding the life blood of the franchise.
