Am I missing something? Is there a criteria he doesn't meet?

How can the #1 CB in the country by some, not even make the list?

His NCAA issues will prevent him from winning this. Regardless of how fair or not it is, the Thorpe voters use character as a criteria.

...and that's worth a lot more. Agreed that it's pretty silly not to have him on the list, though. People making those lists know exactly how the world of college football works. Grading him on some kind of character criteria is asinine.

The Thorpe is a career award. If I remember right, that was specifically cited as the reason Banks won it his year over that safety from Fresno State or somewhere; that other guy had insane numbers his last year but didn't play much his first two.

The Thorpe is one of the awards actually done right. These awards should be culmination awards that take someone's entire career into account. A lot of guys go off their senior year. But if you are the best DB in your class, which is how I think the awards should be viewed, you should have more than one year of high level productivity on your record. Banks had that and that's why he won.

I'll say this, if that cat had played 60 snaps a game last year (like he should have), he'd likely be on the list...
