Serena three double faults in the first game. Down 0-1.

Playing against 20th seed Garbine Muguruza (tune in just to watch her). Both are powerful players.

Took two games, but Serena just got pissed. So look out Garbine, your 15 minutes is about to be up.

Ho-hum, 6-4. Serena can't serve for shit today and still controls the match.

That's because she's so much bigger, faster, and stronger than anyone else. The only one that can beat her is herself

The only thing I don't like about tennis is the such high value of just one aspect of the game, the serve.

Ball placement, different shot type skills, etc, all seems to take such a back seat to if you can serve good.

Driving distance doesn't match its importance.
Pitchers MPH doesn't match its importance.
QB arm strength doesn't match its importance.

I don't know, maybe it's just me.

My wife just compared Serena to Drago, complete with an "I will break you".

I know it's probably wrong to root against the US, but I just can't stand Serena. But Civildawg is right: No one can beat her except herself

Not to sound like an old crank - but tennis as a skill sport went away when space age materials for rackets were introduced in the early/mid 80s. Tennis was way more fun to watch then - men especially. Watch those 70s Borg/Connors/McEnroe matches. They were awesome.

I disagree. The serve may be the single most important aspect of the game, but it doesn't dominate. The guys who are primarily servers have some success but generally can never break through to the top of the sport. Federer only recently became a great server; Nadal and Murray never have been, and Djokovic has never been the best on tour.

I actually think the serve is less important in men's tennis now than ever. Guys hit harder, but it's now all a baseline game that turns into long rallies. Serving is still important, but there is no one who is riding their serve to even a top 10 ranking.

I don't like the homogenized games that makes every match the same thing, which is why I've always loved Federer, but I don't think serve is that huge a factor most of the time.

Agreed. There's much more to tennis than the serve.

I love Serena. Glad she won. Love that some people hate her. It's all so amusing and beautiful at the same time.

Yeah. Even females bigger than her - like the one she beat today.

Oh, how we long for the days when society was fixed to make it appear the some people were superior ... when they really weren't/aren't.

:D

Djokavic - Federer about to begin

Federer has won 89 of 90 games served. That's what I was referring to when I said it matters so much. It's too predictable.

Serena playing is similar to when Shaq was at his prime. There just isn't anyone that can match up. Serena is probably the most all around physically gifted player ever on the women's side. At least Shaq couldn't hit free throws. There isn't a way to hack a Serena.
