This kid is showing what he showed in the fall that made some wonder why he wasn't given a chance to hit last year.

5 for 5 with a HR, a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored.

For the summer, Cole is slashing .417/.500/.778. He has 15 hits out of 36 at bats. Of those 15 hits, 7 have been for extra bases. He has walked once and has been hit by a pitch 5 times. 10 strike outs in 36 at bats may be his only issue, and the swing and miss could have been the reason he sat as a true freshman.

It's very clear that this guy's potential is as a hitter, not as a pitcher.

Luke Reynolds was also 4 for 5 with a HR, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored last night. He is slashing .370/.434/.548 on the year with 1 HR, 8 2B, and 1 3B in 73 at bats. He has struck out only 9 times and has drawn 9 BB.

Remember I spoke over and over why don't we play him. Prob bc he wasn't fully healed from TJ and striking out. He hit HRs last fall and in Feb practice games he was striking his teammates out from the mound.

He's going to be great before he leaves no matter where.

I think he's a diamond in the rough. 6-6 240 throws low 90s and bats left w power.

Like who?

Far more go the other way. Renfroe, lindgren, girodo, Stratton all tipped their coming success by having monster summers. Just to name a few.

Can't recall anyone who did well in the summer and flopped in the spring. Now, we've had plenty of "fall-Americans" who couldn't translate that into success in the spring. I think that speaks more about our pitching than anything else.

If we can stave off the 'ol injury bug for the remainder of summer ball and then in the fall, I'm starting to get a little more optimistic for the spring.

Great Lakes League.

That's a pretty good one as far as rookie leagues are concerned.

For good measure, KB should post Gordon's pitching stats- which were awful. Yeah- he's a hitter. Butch was way off on that.

Gordon is going to be a good player for us- and he's the kind of guy we should be recruiting more of when it comes to power hitters. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't start because of Humphreys and Lowe- but he'll certainly be in the mix.

I hope we are smart enough to move him to a position player/DH. He hits the ball over the fence and has power with a big body and we try to make him a pitcher only. Why the hell couldn't he do both?

My biggest frustration with Cohen has been having guys like Vickerson, Armstrong, etc. DH… Your DH has got to be an extra base or power threat in today's game… No other way around it.

Make him our very own Stephen Head if Butch insists on being a dumbass and making him a pitcher. Start him in the field two days, make him P/DH the day he pitches. Side note - still can't believe Head isn't playing in MLB. That guy was a baller.
