If there's enough smoke the State has the benefit of subpoena powers to dig into the whole ordeal, should they choose to.

On the other hand, it's quite possible that the DA's office would be sympathetic to UM's side and drag their heels.

That won't come into play unless they actually lose Tunsil for a significant period. It won't affect UM at all but the agents could be in a spot of trouble. The law is aimed at agents, not the schools.
