They won. That's a GREAT job by ANY measure that really matters.

It's a typical Stands type win. Make a ****ing awful decision but then your talent bails you out.

You can't help it can you. A win is a win. US Grant won a war that way.

Winning doesnt make his decision any less stupid. He's just lucky he recruits extremely damn well.

Coaches make mistakes- Manieri just got lucky he got bailed out tonight

But he won and has a 1-0 lead in the series. Now I guess you think it would be better to have made a great decision and lost the game. He played to his strength and it paid of in the end. U.S. Grant would approve. Grant > Lee

No- if he had made a better decision- the game would have been over after the top 9th and they wouldnt have needed a HR to win the game. He would have won quicker with a better decision and eliminated the tie and chance of losing

But he won. Winning is the bottom line. Sorry the WAY he won didn't meet your approval. You have no way of knowing if a new pitcher would have done better.

Well, yeah I do. Cause he brought him in and he got 3 straight outs

But he didn't pitch to the guy that tied the game. Bottom line is what he actually DID resulted in a win. Anything else is alternative history. It's intriguing but it is speculation. Your speculation says it was a bad decision. The ACTUAL result says he won the game. Grant > Lee

aye yi yi- sometimes teams win in spite of their coaches. 2007 Sylvester Crooms is the poster boy for this. Still doesnt make his decision right

Maybe he watched us bringing in relievers while ahead in late innings.

And Grant actually made some better decisions than Lee down the stretch- especially starting at Gettysburg. Losing Stonewall Jackson killed Lee

Agree on losing Jackson. They made a great team but Lee was average without Stonewall. Stonewall, with the exception of the aberration during the Seven Days, was the best general on that level during the Civil War on either side. His Valley campaign was masterful. He also preformed superbly for the most part under Lee. Then again he never had the burden of THE command. Forrest might have a claim but he never had the level of responsibility Jackson had, much less Lee. Forrest as a major subordinate was not stellar at Tupelo either. Grant's strength was twofold: 1) persistance 2) he recognized what the Union's biggest strength was. That #2 perfectly complemented #1 was a war winning combination. That's why not every great coaching decision and every great coach can win in every situation. Mullen and MSU are to me a perfect example of that winning synergy. We are a great fit for him and he is a great fit for us. We need to hang on to each other.

Les Miles fits that bill as well. Crazy dumb moves in crunch time but his teams usually find ways to win

I agree 34! Lsu's talent is much better than Manieri's coaching, I have a few Lswho buddies and they think Manieri is a terrible field manager but has talent to overcome his stupidity!

Isn't it tradition for LSU to throw guys until their arms fall off?

Manieri has consistently made stupid decisions over his career in my opinion, which makes me wonder what part of his coaching is responsible for his winning at Notre Dame, which isn't a baseball power that recruits itself like LSU. I think he is simply a great recruiter, like Dan McDonnell.
