I'm not sure that Butch would leave Mississippi, and I'm not sure that Byrne would poach Cohen's staff.

Money talks. If your second point is true then it would mean Butch reached out to Ninja. Meaning a rift in the staff.

Not so much. Could mean simply that Butch wants to be a HC

I would think Butch wants to be an HC, he's been to Georgia and Auburn, staying in Mississippi for less money and being a career assistant doesn't sound right.

I for one could care if he goes or stays. I think we would get a good pitching coach, we've had several in my lifetime and a few of have gone on to be HC.

Sure he would for a good job and sure Byrne would. Why not? This is business.

The criticism of Butch Thompson as a pitching coach really has no basis in reality. He, along with John Cohen, have developed MSU's philosophy on pitching to fit their park factors. The ball change was thrust upon them, and you can see signs that they are adjusting based on the pitchers they have recruited. Butch's staff has had one down season as far as pitching goes. In the previous three years, MSU has produced some of the best team ERAs in all of college baseball. Two of his pitchers have already reached the Major League level. One just got promoted to AAA ball, and another is in high A ball and is dominating at that level.

The injuries to the pitchers that MSU has had were basically situations where the damage was done before they ever got onto campus. It has nothing to do with him changing the arm angle of a few pitchers. In fact, changing the arm angle of Chad Girodo changed the trajectory of his career to the positive.

What needs to change within the philosophy is that Butch has stated in the past that he typically hasn't had much space to use guys who are power arms but have poor command.

http://baseballnews.com/butch-thompson-explains-future-of-pitching/

This is an article from 2014 where he discusses the philosophy he has used. With the change in the baseball, velocity has become more important than getting sink on the pitches. If you have a guy who can throw this ball with some sink though, you use him, but this ball is made for swing and miss pitching. Typically, the power arm guys have been used as middle relievers and speciality relievers. That needs to change, because this team likely needs both Dakota Hudson and Zac Houston starting on weekends.

We pay Butch very well compared to other head coaches.

His family is all local and he's a family guy. On the other hand, money talks so we'll see.

Give Butch a small raise, and tell the Ninja we'll give him Mingione and a million bucks for a pack of Sunflower Seeds.

I think Butch does pretty well for himself money-wise in the position he is in to be living in MS. If he leaves it will likely be he just feels he's at a point in his life that he wants the challenge of being the top guy at a program, doubt it would be for the money.

Arizona seems like a strange fit for someone who has spent most, if not all of his career in the southeast.

That said, it's a really good job, and I know that Thompson wants to be a head coach some day. I don't think he leaves though.

Ole Miss propaganda to get our signees who are on the fence (MSU/Pro) to go pro. Maybe? Likely? I love a good conspiracy ...

I doubt it. I think they see the Greg Byrne connection to MSU and that's where a lot of it is coming from.

Rumor is Byrne was at the Lake Elsinore regional this weekend, so my guess is he was looking at Cal-Santa Barbara's coach.
