Saw on the news that Stricklin has narrowed the replacement down to one team but doesn't want to name it since a contract hasn't been signed yet. No word of its a home or road game either.

@MikeBBonner: MSU's search for a 2016 football opponent is down to one team. It's unlikely a P5 team, which leaves a pool of 20 http://t.co/AKVrRLhdDe

It is UMASS

It needs to be somebody really bad to help break in the new QB. UMass is awful, so that sounds good.

If Dak were going to still be here in 2016, I'd want to schedule Ohio State or someone like that.

Still not liking the BYU series. Their refs will shaft us for sure.

We can have night and day better athletes than BYU and still lose. I hate that we picked them up again. There are too many teams out there that we've never ****ing played.

Mormon Mafia does not give a damn about, "playing fair'. Ends justify the means, and in their minds they are meant to win, and by any means necessary. If any of you have had to do business in certain parts of Utah or Arizona, you know what I mean. If you are not Mormon, you don't deserve to be treated fairly.

I see Army is on that list. I am all over that one...just finished designing a stadium entrance renovation there.

I really hope that with all the dough coming in that we will just pay someone for a one off in Starkville

IIRC, Vandy kicked a field goal to win right at end

Yeah, I am not thrilled to be playing them again, but I will still go out to Provo since I didn't go last time we were there. I wish the rumors of Boston College had come through though. I was really hoping for that road trip since I have never been to Boston.

I'm OK with UMass, but would personally prefer Army. HATE playing BYU again- and their brawl and thugging out against Memphis tells me they haven't changed.

Last time they were in the Mountain West and they used Mountain West Refs in Starkville. They will probabaly have to use another conferences refs. Possibly SEC.

When you go to Tulane's message boards they all seem to think it is Umass or Ole Miss that's replacing us. It would pretty funny we both were going after Umass and we won the bidding war.

Another triple-option offense? No thanks, especially not with 1 week to prep.

This is the board where you're free to look like a dubmass on sports. There's a political board where you can look like a dubmass with comments like that.

Wut?

This is the board that theorized rich kids commit the most crimes. Truly groundbreaking and remarkably anti-intuitive. Apparently rich kids infiltrate the ghettos at night and commit all the crimes before rushing back to the suburbs before their morning round on the golf course. Only their cunningness rivals their inherent evil, lol.

I am thinking away game at UMASS. Article below says UMASS asked ESPN to help them find a home opponent. Stricklin also said in an interview ESPN tipped them off to the team we are in talks with.

Could be. Look like they're looking for home games though unless the NCAA grant them a waiver because they only have 2 home games & you're supposed to have at least 5.

If it's Umass it's gonna be a 2 for 1. If the first game of the series is indeed in Starkville, then I really hope the buyouts are astronomical. We don't need anymore people screwing us when they get a home game first. BYU is going to do it too if we let them.

BYU is not going to back out our game.

Because we have hopefully made it extremely hard to do. That's the point I'm making. After experiencing this twice in 4 years, Im just saying I hope we've learned to make the buyout for games in Starkville to be the firstborn child of the coach plus 80 million dollars and such (Exaggeration Intended).

I don't think BYU is going to back out of any P5 team. They don't need the money they need the exposer. Their 2016 schedule looks fairly tough.

The buyout in the BYU contract is $1,000,000. But if they join a conference at some point, then they can get out of a game without the penalty as long as they give MSU at least 18 months' notice.

Schedule update.

We knew road game @La. Tech was moved to 2017. The home game scheduled for same year has been moved back to 2018. However, a new game in Starkville has been added to 2021. Still no news on 2016 opponent.

ETA: It's a 2-for-1 with return trips to Starkville in 2017 and 2020.
