Boom

Let me be the first to say, we need to hurry and beef this kid up and turn him into a Defensive Tackle.**

Seriously though, this kid is going to be a good one. Glad he's cleared.

Anfernee was never in trouble of qualifying like Steve was trying to make it. He's been good to go for a while.
Back to Mullins Turner & Diaz think he's the most underrated kid in the class. They think he has a NFL future.

Can we nickname this guy "Penny"?

Lets please not turn this into another Rosebowl bashing thread. I was thinking the other day about how much his combines help talent get uncovered in this state. IMO, what he does, along with many others, is one of the reasons we aren't seeing NFL caliber talents go to USM & the SWAC anymore. The talent is getting uncovered earlier than it used to.

Sure, does he look like Chumlee off of Pawn Stars? Yes, but that doesn't mean that the majority of what he does isn't good.

Rosebowl is running scouting combines and uncovering talent for coaches? Seriously?

I think it helps & I think it helps narrow down the talent pool that our coaches want to bring to camp.

Again, there are numerous reasons that we are now gobbling up every projectable player in the state, but I think people like Rosebowl, that have made a major effort to organize & streamline the talent in Mississippi, have really helped there be less wholes in the scouting process. With these types of combines, the chances of a special talent slipping through the cracks, decreases

Many of you view our coaches as super human, talent evaluators that work 24/7, but the truth is that they are human beings just like the rest of us. Any help that they can get to filter the talent they will usually appreciate

I wasn't saying that to bash Steve I don't have an issue with Steve at all. I was just saying he's went a little overboard on the Mullins struggling to qualify talk.

I agree with you. The #1 guy in finding & shining lights on MS kids by far is Demetric Warren. Leo Lewis, Damion Dickens, DD Bowie, all guys nobody knew until Demetric shined a light on them. I'm like you I'm for anybody who is trying to give MS kids as much attention as they can get.

There are some Ole Miss faithful that are accusing Demetric Warren of being a "street agent" for these players. They claim that he was taking bids on Leo. You know, the typical Ole Miss trash when they lose a recruit they really wanted.

Any chance he plays this year, or is he just too raw?

I wouldn't play him unless he's just head & shoulder better than what we have. With Jefferson, Brown, Coleman, & Calvin then Dale & Harris also I don't see a need to waste a year this season. Let him RS get some technique & coaching then see what he looks like next year.

Holy shit...did he have 27 TFLS & 15 sacks his senior yr? Am I reading that right?

Yep. He's just wild & raw right now. Once Turner gets a hold of him he's going to be a good 1 but we don't have to rush him.

Those numbers aren't totally raw unless his opponents were terrible beaten with athleticism only.

Any chance he can provide what Haynes did last year for the participation trophy team?

Compare his and Haynes abilities and skills.

Haynes is 220 lbs and a 100% speed, edge rusher. OM now needs him to develop into an every down DE. Mullins isn't a pure speed edge rusher. He's a good rusher but his skill set is more conducive to being an every down DE. Should MSU get Marquis Haynes production out of Mullins year 1 (I don't see it), MSU fans should be thrilled. I'd like to see Mullins redshirt and jump on the scene next year

Steve is helping smaller schools find guys, I am not aware of any guys of ours that he's uncovered. If I am way off, would love to be corrected with some examples.

I really look at Stevie's combine as being for the athletes more so than helping this or that school.

Pretty much what Beast said. Mullins is already 250lbs he's a 3 down DE while Haynes is only a pass rush specialist. I just don't see him playing this year.

Chris Rayford, maybe. Not sure if he was a target before he participated.

We should always assume a kid is going to RS unless they are just a freak athlete. And we only sign 3-4 of those guys per year

Well, by definition, if it's helping the athletes, then it's also helping the schools they end up attending.

It is & he'll be the first to tell you it's about the athletes. He doesn't make a dime off these kids like some others do.
