I was fortunate enough to spend the week prior to Memorial Day with my good friend and roommate from Iraq in Myrtle Beach. We had not seen each other very much since our tour, and it was great to get our families together with us. Between us, we have four girls under the age of five. Only ten short years ago we were hard drinking LT?s running convoys, and now we read Pete the Cat books and go to bed early. Such is life.

While there, I hit up the local bourbon scene and met the leader of the local whiskey tasting society. After browsing their selections, I walked away with a Jefferson?s Barrel Aged Manhattan, and an Old Medley 12 year old.

I had read about the Jefferson's barrel aged Manhattan, and was interested in trying it. Short review - this is totally worth the purchase if you see one. The flavors out of this cocktail were amazing, and really picked up some orange from the bitters. Just pour this right over some ice and you are in business.

I didn't, and still don't, know much about the Old Medley, other than I spent way too much for it. I like an aged whiskey, and was looking for something new to try, but this one is not worth the $50 I paid for it. Turns out, it is sourced from a distillery in CA, but was drinkable none the less. If you see this one, pass.

Good stuff.

Pass on the jeffersons ocean. While it taste pretty good, it isnt worth the pricetag. You are paying for the novelty.
