We have a Mississippian in the Finals. Dev Jaiswal from Winston Academy. He's an 8th grader and is making his second appearance.

He just advanced by spelling "bacchius"

8 remaining

That's really impressive that a local kid made it. Good luck

I doubt seriously I could've made it 2 rounds... probably not that far. These kids' ability to spell is freaking awesome. I wish I was that smart

Gnathostome is Dev's word and he hits it out of the park

He advances to Round 9.

Iridocyclitis is the word that takes down Dev. He gets a standing ovation as he salutes the crowd on his exit of the stage. Clearly was the fan favorite this year.

Dev smiling and loving his family even as he exits the stage. Happy kid, and made everyone smile and laugh. Best possible representative for MS that we could have asked for.

How do you miss such an easy word like iridocyclitis? *** Now I have to go google to see what that is.

Google says it is an inflammation of the middle layer of the eye. The more you know.

Dev has a line of people greeting him and asking for autographs. Let that sink in.

What people?

If anyone knows Dev or his family, MSU Baseball would like to contact them to see if they can have Dev throw a first pitch at DNF

Is that a passed ball or backing up a bad baseball throw.

And probably the only word I could spell and know the meaning.

I'm proud for Dev. My kids attended Winston Academy for several years. It's a great school in my point of view. They still say the pledge of allegiance in the morning and come home with bible verses to learn for homework, something that public schools have taken away from the majority because of the minority, but none the less Dev is first class and one heck of a smart young man. I wouldn't have made it through the first round. Congrats to the young man. I hope he keeps his head held high.

If anyone knows this family, MS Baseball is trying to get in touch with them so they can have this child throw out the first pitch in a game next Spring.
