Home field advantage thread and Tusk talking about BD made me think of this for a thread. Best away game experience you ever had as a Bulldog?

1997 Tuscaloosa.

Me and my buddy Pick drove over that Saturday morning. Had a few drinks pregame but werent getting too rowdy. Were sitting in the end zone within a mix of State and Bammers. I'm pretty sure the only college graduates were the State fans. Had this one Bammer know-it-all sitting directly in front of us. History, player numbers, stats, etc- he knew it all. He's talking about State like we are some ****ing juco. I looked at Pick and told him if we ever get ahead its on. Pick laughs and says "you gonna get us in a fight aint ya?"

As you know we got after their ass that day and just outphysicalled them. JJ ran for what- 200 yards? I kept calling Kitchens "Fat Freddie" and just wearing out this guy in front of me. Talking about how we are just pushing them around on their own field and showing them how to play smashmouth football. Then went in on how Bama should be embarrassed for having such a fat QB. Just anything I could think of.

When JJ broke that last run in the 4th for a 50 yard TD or so- he was running straight to us. The State people in our section were going nuts. After it calmed down- I looked at Pick and said- "I bet these trailer park maintenance men wish they had hired Jackie Sherrill now...."
The Bammer guy in front looks at his buddy and tells him with his voice literally breaking "I'm not going to sit in MY stadium and listen to fans from a shit school talk bad about Alabama. We are greatness. Im going to the car"...will never forget that. He was around 30 and just on the edge of tears that day from the asswhoopin we laid on them.

They got us back 2 years later when we were undefeated and the refs ensured we wouldnt win that day. But that day in 1997 was awesome

I haven't had the chance to see too many away SEC games. But I was there in 2010 when we went to the swamp at Gainesville and whooped up on Urban Meyer.

November 1 1997 1:00 PM Mississippi State @ #11 Auburn Jordan–Hare Stadium • Auburn, AL L 0–20 82,736

My friend, an Auburn grad, was worried I was going to get my tail beat for cheering on our Dawgs. By the fourth quarter, that place was so empty, I could clearly see the other 2,735 bulldogs in attendance. What a glorious day to be a dawg!

LSU game last year. It was an awesome and almost surreal experience given our track record against them and how badly we were beating them. Only setback was the near heart attack I had the last 5 minutes...

2010 egg bowl.

We were rite behind the rebel bench and stood the entire time. Rebel fans around us kept telling us to sit down and watch it on the video board. By the 4th we were all feeling pretty good and acting up a good bit...nothing was said about their team, we were just goin nuts for state...the rebel fans around us just flat couldn't stand it. A few words were exchanged both ways but nothing out of hand or over the top. Funny thing was that Dennis buse's parents were rite behind us, rebel fans oddly enough, and they were getting a kick out of how much we enjoyed the victory. The walk out was glorious of course, not to mention one rebel fan I know getting handcuffed for punching a cowbell ringer on the concourse.

This is mine too. I kept telling my nephew that we were not supposed to be doing that to LSU at LSU. LSU fans were high fiving us as they filed out in the 4th quarter and telling us how great we looked and how much they wish they had Dak. We were making plans to go to New Orleans and party all night until the last five minutes. After watching us turn it into a nail biter we were so exhausted we just wanted to go home. There were literally no LSU fans around as we made our way back to our car. It was the greatest road trip ever.

I'm young so don't judge. Last year at LSU was amazing. Energy from beginning to end was great even after the 2 minute scare at the end. Ranks in my top three games. 1.) 2013 Egg Bowl 2.) 2014 Auburn 3.) 2014 @LSU

I've seen 2 great ones and one "almost"

1991 at Auburn - hand Pat Dye a loss that was the beginning of the end for him and validation that the Texas win was not a fluke. Also my first road trip as a freshman at State.

2010 at UF - got 50 yard line seats from my cousin, 4 rows up behind the UF bench. 4 little specs of Maroon in a sea of Orange and Blue. My kids first time seeing the M&W.

2006 "almost" in Athens - with a bunch of my UGA friends, who threatened to leave me without a ride when we threatened late. I told them "guys, seriously there is no way we win this game", then we almost did.

1) LSU last year. One of the few times I've cried tears of joy for MSU athletics. I doubt I'll ever hear Death Valley that quiet ever again.

2) 2007 Auburn. I'll never forget the 73 yard punt that changed the game for us in the 4th.

Ditto! Had an absolute blast! The LSU fans were gracious (shocker!) cause I swore I'd never go back to that place after the awful experience I had in college. Well famous last words, never say never, right? At any rate, back to the "gracious" LSU fans...they all just said that they'd rather lose to us than UPiss & that we better beat UM, yada yada. Welp! At least we beat LSU! We'll finish the rest of that when we beat the UPiss'ers this season.

I had also sworn to never go back over 20 years ago. My brother talked me into going so I have to give him credit. We took our dad's '94 Crown Vic and wore State shirts from the '90's because we figured we'd bring back the last decade we had any success against the tigers. Shockingly our strategy worked.

'81 game at Auburn when I had just about given up hope, and Bond hit Danny Knight for the TD and the game winner. You could hear the Auburn crowd groan. I loved it!

A close second, but most important, was the '98 game in Oxford when we beat Ole Miss for the SEC West Championship.

I was at BD in 97 and 99 as well. In 97, I bought tickets off the street. 50 yard line in the chairbacks. i stroll up in my maroon garb. Fat old Bama fan tells me those are Such and Such's seats. I say they are mine today. When we scored the 1st TD, I got kinda excited because I knew if we played well, we would win. Anyway, bigdaddy didn't like my cheering. It was a fun day. 1999......heart breaker even though I was never convinced we would win.

Auburn in 97....nearly a 100 yard pick 6. What a play to swing that game. Then #1 on the list......Auburn 1999. The comeback. The dramatic finish. Beating "Ears"......awesome day.

I don't do road games in general but my best would have to be the 1989 USM game that we won 26-23 in Hattiesburg. Its the ONLY true road game I've ever been at that we won. Only been at 6 other MSU road games which were Auburn ('83, '11, '13), LSU ('85), Alabama ('12), and Vandy ('88). We lost all 6 of those. The 2011 and 2013 Auburn games were both gut punch losses for sure.

Notables to me are 2010 @ Ole Miss, 2005 @Tulane in Shreveport ( for the novelty and alligator bites), 1986 @Tulane (first road game ever)...

But for my best experience I bet you all are expecting some SEC game right? Wrong. A friend of mine and I got a wild hair in 1992 and decided to go see us play Memphis State (U of Memphis for you young nuggets). To this day, that is what I consider the best game I've ever attended as far as just a knock down put the cat out fight between two teams that wanted it badly. I LuuuuuuuV a defensive struggle where every 7 yard gain makes you feel like you evermore had to stomp somebody's a$$ to get that good of a gain on the ground. We trailed 16-13 late and made a long drive for the win in closing minutes. We may have run off half the 4th quarter.

They turned out to be no slouch. While that was only game 3, Memphis went on to finish 6-5, their 5 losses to no less than USM, Louisville, State, Tennessee and Ole Miss, schools with a combined W-L record of 37-21. They won their six victories by an average margin of OVER 24 points per contest. And get this.... those five losses were by a TOTAL of 17 points. With the exception of our 1997 team that went 7-4, I consider that 1992 Memphis State team to be the best (meaning #2) in the modern era of college football to not go bowling. Man I still get fired up remembering that one! What a battle!

ETA: I got excited. I implied but didn't actually state that we won 20-16 for those who don't remember it or hadn't joined us in the world yet.

2007 Auburn and 2010 Florida were both a blast.

Also really enjoyed the "fun fun fun" game where Dixon ran all over Kentucky in 2009. I think that one gets lost in the shuffle because it's just Kentucky, but that was actually Kentucky's fourth straight bowl year (and they made one the next year).

It was bizarre, surreal even, with only about 10K or so in attendence on short notice. This is why the whole experience sticks out in my memory...and as mentioned, good eating. I was in a brand new truck.

LSU back in Jackie's first year was damn good. I was sitting in a Rebel skybox watching us take out the Rebs and punch our ticket for Atlanta. And I'd have given a lot to have been at Baton Rouge last year instead of rattling the rafters of my own house.

But Number 1 for me is of all places Kentucky. 2014. I decided about midnight Friday that I would never forgive myself if I didn't see us play live as Number 1 in what may well have been the only chance in my life to see such a thing. So I got up at 4 am Saturday and drove my ass up to Lexington, parked at Keeneland and scored a free ticket to the game from a Kentucky fan. The sense of oneness with the State fans up there was palpable--who could believe what was happening, we were all walking around in a dreamlike State--and even the Wildcat fans were with us. I'll never forget the guy in blue high-fiving every State fan that left the stadium as we walked out and I probably heard at least 100 times from their fans that they hoped we ran the table, and they meant it. I even bought a UK stadium cup for the sole purpose of (possibly some day but probably not) seeking the first autograph and probably last of my life from Dak to commemorate the experience.

The 2010 Egg Bowl was a blast. Their PA system wasn't working for some reason, so you couldn't hear anything the announcers were saying. By the time they got it fixed, the 3rd quarter was almost over, and all their fans had left. I just remember sitting there in the 4th quarter with other State fans, ringing cowbells, getting nasty looks from the few embarrassed Confeds still there.

On the way out, one of them starts yelling at me about tracking cow crap all over the place. Adorable.

For me, the 99 game at Auburn was the best time I have had at a road game. Especially the last few minutes during the comeback as the Auburn crowd went silent.

Although we lost, I had a great time at Oregon in 2002 as well, even with finding out on the plane flight that we wouldn't have Fant. After that news, I just determined that I would have a great time and enjoy the trip.

I also had a great time at Oklahoma State in 98. Some friends and I decided to take a road trip the night before after classes and drove from Starkville to Stillwater. Even with a loss, was a great road trip overall. One of my friends that went had been a student at OSU the year before so she was able to take us around.

Finally, that Egg Bowl in 98 to seal the West Division title was so much fun, especially the way we took care of business and our defense never gave them a chance. It sickens me to think what might have been if JJ had not been dealing with that groin injury in the SEC Championship game.

2010 Egg Bowl

It was my wife's first game in Oxford. We walked around the grove and we passed by a porta potty that had an om fan in it standing up (I guess) looking at us through the vents or something at the top. As we passed by he started booing or mooing at us and I turned around and told him that I hope he was enjoying it in there because that was the only bowl he would see that year. He had nothing.

I haven't been to a ton of road venues in the SEC....only LSU, Auburn, and Lil Sis. But the most fun experience I had was Auburn in 2001. It was a great game, even though we lost on a last second FG by Duval. The after party was great and I was in college at the time so that had a lot to do with it I'm sure.

Best "in-game" experience was LSU at night by far. Forgot exactly what year, but it was in the 90's and we scored first, I showed my ass, and we proceeded to get beat 42-6 and I got verbally abused the rest of the night. Absolutely electric in that place though.

I've heard awesome things about trips to Athens so I'd love to go there, and I've got a fellow EliteDawg buddy that just moved up to South Carolina, so I'm looking forward to checking their GameDay out in the near future as well.

I know this will sound like typical MSU bias...but I've been to Oxford several times with an open mind looking to just have fun....and it just simply does not live up to the hype. And the times it has rained....the Grove is down right awful. A muddy disaster

The 2010 Egg bowl was my first college football game, so I'll roll with that one. My dad and I sat right by the Famous Maroon band. It was a fun time, it was great seeing a ton of State fans there. There was one fat ole miss fan in front of us. The guys around us gave that dude hell, and one guy snuck in a cowbell and rang it in his ear. Dude left the game at Halftime as well as about half the ole miss fans in attendance. I'll never forget that game.

Last year at LSU is definitely number 1 for me. First win over LSU in years (and in Tiger Stadium at that), had great seats, Tiger Stadium is awesome and I was really surprised at how nice their fans were. All I have ever heard were horror stories about how awful their fans are and the only other trip I have made down there was in 2004 when I was sophomore in college and we drank so much that I really don't remember much about the trip (aside from the team getting completely destroyed), so I was expecting them to be awful......but that wasn't the case at all. I don't know whether the trashy fans have been priced out, they just don't view MSU as a threat or if I just got lucky, but everyone that I ran into was great.

Number 2 would have to be 2009 at Auburn, even though we lost. It was a great trip......another great venue, the fans were great and their pregame (where the eagle flies around the stadium) is really awesome. Really enjoyed that trip.

Grave I was at that Southern game too. That was one fun win.

To add a little bit for tusk, southern had beat no. 1 FSU the week before. When it looked like they had the game won, the southern fans started doin the tomahawk chant. We bring in Underwood(I think)for that last drive. He gets us down to Artie cosby's(I think lol)range. He kicks the game winnin FG. ALL us state fans start the tomahawk chant to end the game. The chant kept going as we left the stadium it got loud once we all got underneath the stadium. That was really fun at the time. The chant finally died once everyone got out into the streets.

Winning the West in oxford was frickin awesome too. Lot of us waited til the players started coming out to get on the bus. The bus had "SEC Champs" across the front.

#2 would be 1998 egg. "Pine box"

#1 southern miss last second field goal. Tomahawk chop. Week after usm beat #1 fsu in tallahasse.

1999 Auburn game. Right in the middle of Auburn fans with a bunch of my best friends. It was great!
