Good start. Britton and Collins single followed by a Reynolds double.

We have to be among the worst in the country with less than 2 outs and man at 3rd.

3 straight hits with the last a double and a walk = 1 run.

This inning was on Rea. He has to put the damn ball in play

Sykes Orvis is the best and most productive .250 hitter in the country. I wish one of our 5 sub .250 hitters in the lineup was half as productive.

If we had em, he'd probably have a much higher avg and much less overall production. See Wes rea

Had Britton not got hurt and had it bothering him all year I would've loved to have had this lineup:

1B: Hump
2B: Holland
SS: Heck
3B: Britton
C: Collins
DH: Reynolds/Rea depending matchup
LF: Vickerson
CF:Robson
RF:Brown

I agree with Msstate 7 that Smith hasn't had much of a shot after his injury. Unfortunately, like Britton, injuries happen and it doesn't help Cohen is all about his favorites, etc. It is also hard to replace Rea with the numbers he has put up this year, but I feel like this lineup would have given us a decent shot at being better than what we have been this year.

We really need to see some improvement next year in all areas of our game. Cohen needs to stop messing with people's swings and just let them hit. Thompson has to get more out of his pitchers starting and relieving. And we need to find a SS/3B to cut down on these errors.

Rea leads the team in OBP and Slugging by a long shot. He should never be out of the lineup, regardless of any matchup, and he shouldn't ever be down at 5th either.

I haven't been keeping up with Colby Bortles hitting over the years but that stance can not be helping things. His chest and arms are at the plate while his legs and ass appear to be in the on deck circle.

I agree and have thought this all season. His ONLY weakness is that he's good for a couple of HRs/game- that's it. If he can fix that, Sexton will be one of the SECs best starters next season.

Uhhh, no. Joerger has been damn good. We collapsed a bit down the stretch, but it was injuries to key players as much as anything. I'm all for giving coaches leash when they've earned it. I was one of the one very vocally defending Mullen two seasons ago when most here, including Engine, wanted him fired.

And who said I want to fire Cohen? I'd bet my football season tix that he gets one more season. If he turns it around, I'll be on board. If he doesn't, he can hit the door. But being on track to post a worse record than the one that got Polk II fired in your 7th season isn't good. And I'm too lazy to look, but I doubt we've been above .500 in SEC play under Cohen outside of 2013. That isn't acceptable for MSU baseball.

I have plenty of criticism for this entire staff top to bottom. this has been a strange year all the way around, plagued by weird injuries. The lineups and matchups annoy the **** out of me, but I still believe cohen has a good overall plan on store for this team

I have plenty of criticism for this entire staff top to bottom. this has been a strange year all the way around, plagued by weird injuries. The lineups and matchups annoy the **** out of me, but I still believe cohen has a good overall plan on store for this team
1 year doesn't a failure make

Eta: I'm not some in the know guy - just a baseball fan. but I hope we move on from mingione. I hear he's an elite recruiter etc and it's "cohens offense". All that being said ld prefer try to find an elite hitting /swing coach and move from there

Same. Basically. Mingione has to fall on the sword at this point regardless...

And I'm too lazy to look, but I doubt we've been above .500 in SEC play under Cohen outside of 2013. That isn't acceptable for MSU baseball.

I don't disagree with the point you are making, but just FYI, we finished above .500 in the SEC in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
