Crunched some data:

Average Star Rating: 3.656
Std Dev: 0.865

5 Star: 7
4 Star: 8
3 Star: 16
2 Star: 1
1 and NR: 0

Washington had 3 picks, FSU 2, Miami 2, and Oregon 2

I know there has been a lot of talk about how Miami was a 6 win team with multiple draft picks, but has Washington been an underachiever considering they had 3 first rounders?

No I don't think they have underachieved. As has been for the last while now, it's about the QB and depth in the NCAA. Us and LSU were the prime examples of this last year. We were good because we had a solid QB and quality depth at virtually every position. Think about this. We probably had on both sides of the ball 15 NFL draft picks on our 2 deep this year including our QB. But LSU had a revolving QB situation and lost a lot of really good juniors to the NFL, so they lost their quality depth and it showed on the field.

Washington doesn't have quality depth and that's important in a league like the PAC 12 where it's obvious they have made a commitment to try and catch up to the SEC in terms of the quality of the product they have in football. If you don't have a QB and you don't have depth, you cannot win big in any power 5 conference. Alabama doesn't win because they have 2-3 1st rounders in a draft. They win because they have 2-3 1st rounders EVERY YEAR, which means they have 8-12 first rounders on the field at any given time. Add in a bunch of other NFL Draft picks and they have probably 20-25 draft picks on their 2 deep at any given time. Add in a good QB and there is the recipe for success.

So you can't ever look at these things as snapshots in time. You have to put the whole picture together and analyze the totality of what goes on the football field over the course of a few years time.

Washington's (3) first rounders goes to show you that Steve Sarkisian knows what he is doing.

You could also argue that it shows he doesn't.
