View Full Version : Was Ole Miss's famous crootin class a bust?

Robert Nkemdiche, Conner, Treadwell, Tunsil....

All of those guys are pretty good. But were they a bust? What has that class accomplished? Never finishing ahead of State in the SEC standings? Finishing well behind us in national polls during their peak season?

We all know 2015 isn't going to be great for them. So...2 mediocre seasons plus one decent season in which they were still eclipsed by us.

They got a hell of a lot of hype. Dominated us in preseason rankings. Dominated us in media hype. Basically dominated us in all off-field matters. Who cares.

That class hasn't produced much. For all they were made out to be....yawn.

Tunsil has gotten hurt every year while at Ole Miss and with his propect of getting drafted he is going to play very conservative next season. Treadwell may not psychologically get over his injury.

I'd let this year play out before I went too far... They did play in a top-tier bowl and got in the top 5 last year. That's nothing to scoff at and is the most success they've had in school history post intergration. That said, they still finished behind us in SEC rankings and we were number 1.... but honestly that doesn't negate that class.

I said pre last year that 2014 would be the most talented team in OM history and I still think that's a good call in hindsight. Unfortunately, I think last year was their window year w/scheduling and key positions. Last year was the year for that class to win the west if they were going to IMO.

Oh no- haven't you heard? Freezus has them trending upward. They are going to go on the road to T-Town, Auburn, and Sville with guns blazing to win the West this year. This is the year they have been building for.

The defense will take a step back. It won't be huge but they won't be the number 1 defense in the nation again. I still see them as a top 15 unit though. Their schedule gets worse. I don't think whoever wins the qb job will be as good as Bo Wallace. Even if I'm wrong about the defense (they repeat as #1) and Kelly is better than Wallace the schedule is still brutal. I stand by my take that last year was "the year".

this year will determine that, but I agree it's not shaping up well for that class at this point

I can't say that though. This will be the most successful class in their history post segregation. The fact that they've never finished ahead of MSU in the standings doesn't have any correlation to their overall success. That's just something MSU fans love to say. How many places are a class expectations conference/national championship or bust? Bama? Ohio State now? Oregon?

They kick our ass in Oxford this year, and I'm still not over that loss yet...

Home team wins the Egg Bowl- I've let it go. And I am going to enjoy the **** out of our win this November as I watch #15 play his final home game as a Bulldog

Home team wins the Egg Bowl

Yup. The only time this doesn't happen is when the home team is just totally out-classed, as was the case in 2010. Rivalries aside, it's 17'n tough to win on the road in the SEC West, and I don't see Dak losing on senior night in his last game at MSU; not gonna happen.

It does when their fanbase hammers and hammers and hammers their crootin class ranking as a be-all indicator of program success.

Nah...

OM loves press and that class has given them plenty. They have made a new year 6 bowl and gotten the reputation as a premier recruiting school

This doesn't even include the 4* TE from Prestonwood Christian in Dallas, Morgan, who transferred out.

I don't know enough about their players to discuss the others listed as BUST, but how can you list Ryan Buchanan as a BUST?

"In the totality of spring, going into today, I would say Ryan had a lead," Freeze told Scout.com.

Going 5 of 16 passes for 49 yards and an interception in the Grove Bowl is actually pretty good considering the defense he's going against.

I watched Buchanan play at Prep. Trust me, he's a bust. He's terrible

Thats hilarious, but its not their whole class, is it? Engram is definitely missing as are a few others I'm sure. I know they signed a lot more than 14 guys that year.

Your exactly right in that there are others in the class that have turned out to be productive players, but the point of this graphic is to show that most/many of the players that earned them the recruiting ranking that is blindly celebrated to this day, were non productive players that were either misevaluated by the recruiting services or didn't fit into their program.

Sure there are some 3 stars in that class that have turned into nice college players, but that isn't the point. The point is that when Bo Bounds and Barrett Sallee endlessly talk about Ole Miss being a recruiting powerhouse, because of class, it's a ridiculous talking point because most of the players that earned them that ranking have sucked.

Adeboyejo & Engram were both 3* in that class & both have been somewhat productive, but they didn't contribute to the hype of that class.

Here is the entire class: http://olemiss.247sports.com/Season/2013-Football/Commits

Someone needs to tweet this to Dipshit Steele, Asschaps, and the rest of the bunch. I knew it was bad but had no clue it was this bad. Been saying their actual contributing players are top heavy when it comes to talent but this shows it clearly.
