May have been already discussed, but I found this interesting

Malik Newman told Scout that he won't take any official visits + doesn't plan to sign a Letter of Intent.

Not sure what to make of that, anybody got a better read on this?

He will only sign a scholarship offer. That's it...no LOI.

Some guy on 247 just crystal balled him to Kansas. Hope that has nothing to do with this and he is out of the loop?

ETA: Nevermind, he just switched it to State 😎

What's the difference between a LOI and signing a scholarship offer

More & more kids are going to start doing this. Basically these kids sign financial aid papers with the school but not a NLI. It just gives the kid some leverage in case something drastic happens before they get on campus & they're stuck with the school. The LB from Georgia kind of started this when he committed to UCLA on Signing Day but then found out his lead recruiter & position coach was taking a job with the falcons. He hadn't yet sent in his NLI so he wasn't bound to UCLA & eventually picked UGA. The high profile guys will start doing it more bc after signing day & all the NLI were in then all the coaches would take the new jobs. This just gives the kids some leverage in this whole process.

Yea he just had to hit the wrong button.

Yea seems like a lot of people in desperation mode and denial about him trending to MSU. All the big media talking up overseas and how about that red cup rebellion article ranking his potential landing spots and having us 5th. LOL

They will be in denial all the way until he commits to MSU.

Just scholarship papers, per Jeff Borzello of ESPN.

This will become more and more common for the elite recruits in football and basketball.

Edit: meant NLI - National Letter of Intent.

Definitely doesn't mean much if you can seemingly change it every week.

It's a great idea, but the execution is horrible. I was under the impression that once you made a prediction, you could only change it once or twice if you changed it to "cloudy". But apparently that's not the case as Meyer has changed his on Newman at least 6-7 times.

Yeah, but it could also backfire for some, as schools will find themselves possibly moving on to, "Plan B", to avoid getting screwed on NSD. Will be hard for a lot of schools to hold a spot open.

Yea this will be only for blue chip can't miss guys. The average kid won't be able to do this.

I get that, but aren;t those guys also risking getting the opportunity they want most? Let's say a kid really wants to go to Bama, and Saban would love to have him. But Saban has another stud, Player B who he may consider almost as good. You know the saying about, "A bird in hand is better than two in the bush".

I could see a blue-chipper holding out like this and missing out on several of his top choices due to their fear of losing out on Player B-types willing to commit and sign an LOI.

The problem with that is how many player B's are going to wait & hope that Saban moves on from player A on Signing Day or the days after? Player B waiting on Saban & player A may miss that for sure scholarship from School B. The top of the line blue chippers will be waited on.
