If I have an iPhone 6 can I somehow - while on the road - use my internet on my iPad just by hooking up to my iPhone ? Don't want to pay for hookup for iPad on road but would like internet access - guess I've been watching to many movies!

Set up your iPhone as a wifi hotspot.

Yes you can. Go to your settings, click on cellular, and turn on the hotspot option

Some companies will charge you for using it as a hotspot, even if you do it outside of the official method. I used myWI(a jailbroken version of hotspot that's been around since well before Apple cared to include the feature) for a weekend while in Starkville and when that billing cycle came around, I got a note from ATT telling me that they were aware of what I did and if it continued, I would be charged accordingly....
