Desmond is overrated and pretty much always has been.

Yeah nats knew they weren't gonna pay Desmond's free agency demands with Harper, strasburg, rendon, etc. all going to be looking for extensions in the not too distant future. Nats did offer him 7 years for $107M, which is about 3 years longer than I'd wanna offer a SS. If he wants to test the market, that's fine. But I also don't think Desmond has been overrated, at least at the plate. He Ks more than you'd prefer, but he's 20-20 3 straight years, decent to good average, and has been one of the most clutch players over that time frame. He's ranked 3rd, 2nd, and 3rd in WAR among SSs the last 3 years, so you can't say he's overrate by traditional or new age metrics. I just don't like the idea of being heavily invested in a SS well into his mid-30s, especially with a good prospect on the way.

As for Desmond being another Zimmerman, Desmond's issues early are mental, zimmerman's were injury related. His shoulder just won't allow him to throw consistently anymore.
