He's been the favorite all along and did nothing but distance himself from the field with his work this spring, posting a 0.42 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio in 21 1/3 innings. The sinkerballer probably isn't going to pile up many strikeouts, but Graveman has excellent control and should benefit greatly pitching half his games at O.co Coliseum. He's a fine late-round, mixed league flier.

Plus, we could have rested Laster a little bit for next week- although that's not too big of a deal because I suspect he will pitch on Friday of next week.

Our bullpen has been bad, but no way in hell would they blow and 11 run lead. If they cut it down to 6 runs, then you bring in Mintz and get the hell out of there.

I'm pretty sure it will be Preston. I expect Sexton to start Sat. I have no clue what we are going to do for midweek- but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Tatum. Unless he does something crazy like go with Hudson or McCord. I'm not going to totally discount Daniel Brown out of the equation, but I doubt he will start.

The good thing about Laster and Preston is they eat innings. I wouldn't be surprised if we get at least 7 from Preston tomorrow. Then we still will have Ross, Fitts, Mintz, and Tatum. We can work with that. If we go to extra innings, we're probably screwed though. See South Alabama.

So, I'm not allowed to discuss the team? Is that a board rule? I guarantee you that if we had Elitedawgs and the Internet in 1988, I would still discuss the Tech and 10 Bulldogs even though I'm pretty sure I would have given up on them after losing to Vanderbilt, Kentucky, or Tulane.

A. As I explained, we need to get guys that haven't pitched a lot some action and a chance to develop. That's going to HELP US get better. And who knows? Maybe Dakota Hudson come in during the 9th and K's three straight guys and then he all of a sudden goes off and we salvage the season. Maybe Paul Young looks better and we start working him in.

B. As far as me giving up on this team- look I still have given up on this team. They're probably not going to a regional. Tonight was a good night and a great win. Big picture for this year, it doesn't change anything. When I see guys like Ross in the dugout leading cheers after pitching like crap and looking like he doesn't care- that's being a loser. When I see guys being timid at the plate- that's being a loser. When you come here to MSU there is an expectation and a standard- and this group hasn't lived up to it for this year.

Hell, I'll say this- if Cohen turns this around and we go to a regional, it might be his best coaching job at MSU. Even if we turn it around it still may not be enough to go to a regional.

That said, you don't have the right to tell me what I can care and not care about. You also need to take my full name off of your post as well. I would appreciate that.

It's not so much about Tatum and Sexton being bad as much as it is about the bullpen being bad. I agree that Preston is a midweek type talent, and that Sexton and Tatum are more talented. But Preston typically pitches more innings than Sexton or Tatum- and that means exposing our bullpen less to SEC teams.

I know -- you were already ready to run off arguably the best pitching coach in the country at the first sign of adversity in 5 years -- and there's no convincing you otherwise.

Let us not forget that Laster legitimately lost his weekend rotation spot earlier in the season. Preston has not yet lost his. The genius move that everyone is bitching about right now is going to be Tatum back to the pen into the Girodo long relief role -- and turning Preston into a Fitts-type starter.

We just had probably our best win since we knocked Beede off the hill last year -- and there have been no new threads started about it. Would have been a full page of bitching threads if we had lost....
