Something else to complain about -

In the last 5 years, we have gotten very little production out of the DH. Can someone please explain why Cohen can't find a player who can come in and be a productive hitter, with no attention to defensive ability?

Maybe he can try to find a loophole to get Rafael Belliard in as a DH. He seemed to be the model hitter he is looking for.

Daniel Garner is hitting .295 at Shelton state. Hardly blowing up as you predicted. I know one thing. He can't hit sec pitching.

Batting average. Funny.

.371 OBP
.538 SLG

23 RBI... Next closest on his team has 9.
5 HR in 78 AB... Next closest on his team has 1.

That's right batting avg is useless tool for u. I forget. And I don't give a shit that his team at Shelton state can't hit either. What I do know is Daniel garner can't hit sec pitching.

The majority of our current lineup can't hit SEC pitching.

I was about to say- JUCO ball ain't SEC ball. Especially Alabama JUCO ball. And then you have to consider that half our team which can't hit is from JUCO- and pretty much all of them tore up JUCO ball.

DH is supposed to be a power guy. But shit- we do well to get three guys in the lineup with power. The options are limited usually.

I won't argue that- however they can hit better than that strikeout machine

Well yeah, and .295 isn't too poor either.. Especially a power guy.

I want to see a JUCO prospect hit at least .380. And I would prefer .400.

So a slugger and slaps guy are judged the same. And on something as stupid as batting average no less. Ok...

Pirtle was .222 before coming in. Heck was .330

There's more to it than that. Like I said I WANT to see a JUCO prospect hit .380-.400. It's not an end all be all. Pirtle was an anomaly- and lends credence to Cohen being good at developing hitters. A path I'm pretty sure you don't want to go down. Heck is not as good as you think he is either. His .152 SEC batting average is stellar. Albert Pujols hit .461 in JUCO ball. I bet I can find more Pujols's than you can find Pirtles.

As far as a slap hitter and a power hitter- an ELITE SEC prospect should be able hit JUCO pitching at a high level regardless of the style of player that they are. You're looking for dominance in the high school/JUCO levels when you are talking about college prospects. Being able to hit for power and average are not mutually exclusive.

You can't look at a guy hitting .295 in Alabama JUCO ball and assume that the guy would be hitting .295 in the SEC. That would roughly translate out to more like .215 in the SEC.
Also, with JUCO's some leagues are better than others. Florida is a lot better than Mississippi. Mississippi and Alabama are roughly equivalent. That comes into consideration as well- a guy hitting .400 at Chipola is more impressive than a guy hitting .400 at Hinds.
