I would love to see this guy become our coach: http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dgfS7

question about this though. I mentioned in another thread (just a gut feeling as I have no inside source) that what if there was no intention on canning Ray then all of a sudden this guy, for whatever reason fell into our lap and that changed things with Ray coming back next year?

would that be kind of shitty on our AD dept or is this the way things go down sometimes in college athletics? I know it does in the business world sometimes.

I don't put that on the athletic department. There are always some big money guys who are trying to control everything, and in this case, contact was probably made and interest was shown both ways.

All of the sudden, saying you coach at Mississippi State sounds different than just a couple of years ago (from a national perception).

I think it does suck because Strick probably told Ray throughout the season that he would more than likely get another year, but I also think if a good opportunity arises you can't let it pass. Imagine if after Croom's third year we had an opportunity at a proven, veteran head coach. I bet we could have done the same.

Ben Howland will get the job if he wants it because it looks like him and Vic Schaffer were separated at birth. Remember, there is nothing that Strick would rather do than repeat the Vic Schaffer hire. He'll use the same formula here and try to hire Schaffer's spitting image.

People are ignoring the timing of Ray's termination, you don't fire a guy two weeks after his last game unless a home run hire has made himself available.

Yeah, I have a hard time buying "I wanted to get away from the emotions of the season."

On top of the $3M he already got. $4M in 3 years for being an abomination at your job ain't bad. Furthermore, it's the way the game works now. If a slam dunk hire falls in your lap when you were fairly certain you'd have to fire your current coach in another year anyway, you pull the plug and hire the slam dunk.
