Also with the missed layup after beating the front a few minutes ago. Definitely need to add some skill in the front court somehow.

I'm sure some of you will disagree, but if Ray's offense is bad, then Bruce Pearl's famous flex is nothing special either. Not that I believe the latter, but I do think it indicates that it's talent more than scheme that makes an offense.

Good grief. A called foul in the game of basketball seems so arbitrary. We can't get more than one possession without free throws.

When Gavin gets on that roll, he can make 18 footers but he and Roq are worthless 2 feet from the basket.

Except auburn is in year 1, pearl couldn't even recruit last year, and auburn is bringing in a top 10ish class. Whereas we are in year 3, our HC is about to have his 4th class, and we are bringing in a top 50ish class. I understand you need talent to win and score, but how long does ray get the talent excuse before some of y'all realize that recruiting talent is a HUGE part of being a college coach and heading into year 4 with our "best" class under ray being a borderline top 50 class that's not on campus yet is a HUGE problem and why some of us want to move on?

He should be thankful he had 3 borderline 3/4* guys gifted to him in the first class, because I'd hate to see what we'd look like with only the guys ray spent a lot of time recruiting. Imo giving him the benefit of that first class IMPROVES the perception of his recruiting a lot.

Hire malik as assistant coach/player. Ray pays him his entire salary next season to parlay it into a new 4-year contract*

I'll give you Sword, even though he didn't develop the skills he needed to be a legitimate college 2 until his junior year; but do you really think Ware and Thomas are borderline 4* talents even now, let alone when they came in? In my opinion, Houston is the best talent to enter the program under Ray (excluding arguably Staley, for obvious reasons), and it's not close.

I'm not trying to defend Ray, by the way. Just trying to make some objective observations. If anything, you can take my original post on the subject as saying that Ray needs to be criticized more for his recruiting than his X's and O's.

According to 247 composite, ware was rated higher than sword.

I guess fred was a little lower, more mid to high 3.

Sure, but has he consistently lived up to that class-leading borderline 4* rating? Ray has been fortunate to have those three he inherited, no doubt, but the only one out of that 2012 class who isn't the same type of "role player but not program-changer" that he's subsequently recruited thus far is Sword (and even Sword wasn't more than that until this year).

but if ray can't help those guys develop, why do we think he's gonna develop guys rated much lower? obviously none of those guys have been program changers because they have about a .350 winning percentage since stepping on campus. the point is THAT WAS THE BEST INCOMING GROUP OF PLAYERS RAY HAS OR WILL HAVE ACCORDING TO THE RATINGS. so either he better start developing guys or really pull somebody out of his ass. everyone keeps getting stoked for the 2015 class, but it's at best similarly rated to that first class. expecting any of those guys to be difference makers is placing unfair expectations on them, and expecting ray to develop them into anything more than what the 2012 class developed into is unrealistic expectations of ray.

No argument there. Although it is worth noting if we're looking at recruiting ratings that Weatherspoon will be the highest-rated player to enter the program under Ray, and will be topped again by Simonds the following year if Ray makes it that long.

He's basically rated about what ware and sword were rated coming out of HS.

In Ware's defense, he plays on a team that can't shoot. Thus, they can double Him. He is really a power forward anyway. If they would post Him high and let Him him shoot mid-range jumpers it would open the door for Chicken and Houston to drive. Or they could have a couple Guys that could knock down 3s and all of a sudden Ware is a double -double guy.

Very true. He's a distinctly average player as a center or low post power forward, but he'd no doubt be much more effective if he could play more of a stretch role full time. Even in that hypothetical case though, he wouldn't have developed the skills to play that way until this year, similar to Sword.

Ware doesn't seem athletic enough to me to play the 4. He just seems to be a 5 that's undersized

Agree with this. Ware is slow. He is good under the rim when he can use his big ass to bump people out of the way. I think Ware is our 2nd best player but the team's lack of shooting and passing ability really hurts Ware's production.

he would be great using Him and Chicken with a 2 man-pickand roll game. Ware could pick and POP and Chicken could give and go. the most fundamental and basic of proven effective basketball plays.
