Ha!! Preston just did was I was always tought to do... Guy tries to bunt with 2 strikes... Throw right as his chest and he will either take a FB in the chest or he will bunt it foul. This guy bunted it foul. 1 down.

Wild pitch (which could have been passed ball) 1-0

You can't have a passed ball on a pitch that bounces!!! Now it should have been blocked, but it's not a passed ball.

The elephant in the room right now is we have looked downright pathetic at the plate the last 5-6 games. Not really even getting good contact anywhere in the line up.

Teams are catching on that we aren't going to swing at the first pitch I guess. Holland and Heck both got pitches right in the heart of the strike zone on the first pitch with no swing. Hit from behind the rest of the way. I'm starting to rethink the quality of this team. Our offense is regressing quickly.

smootness
03-06-2015, 06:03 PM
I think it's a combination of our offense just not playing that well right now, and a realization that the new balls won't make as drastic a difference as it appeared early on.

It doesn't look like the game will go from no offense to normal offense; it looks like it's going to go from no offense to a little more offense.

We're definitely not squaring balls up, which is why we're not seeing XBH, but it's still not going to be easy to score runs against quality teams.

preachermatt83

smootness
03-06-2015, 06:08 PM
We're seeing now why ideally someone else will take the Friday job. Preston Brown is a good pitcher and can be very good at times, but he's not the kind of guy who's going to cruise for 4-5 innings just shutting people down. He and Laster are similar in that even when things are going well, they're prone to allow baserunners.

None of those were wild pitches, Brown should go kick Lovelady right in the ass. Speaking of which he needs to stop moving around so much, the second run was scored because he just wasn't ready tore is e the pitch at release. Give him some damn Ritalin or something.
He certainly isn't giving him a target as well.

Yep...once the batter offers and misses, it doesn't matter what happens with the ball after that (in this case it hit him). So, the HBP is nullified because the K happened first.

He must have forgot the outs. 2 outs, 2 bases for him should be automatic after a secondary and going on contact.

I agree he had to have gotten an awful jump- with that said, once he did, what in the world was he thinking?

Ridiculously quick top half of the 8th. We showed a couple of signs of life last inning, time to capitalize here.

Cody Brown BB to start the inning. Then a WP moves him to 2nd, which took the potential bunt option away. Whew.

Oh, holy crap, we're bunting him over to 3rd. There's no excuse for this.

And now he's 2 strikes down. Awesome.

Lovelady pops out to SS. Yes, Smitty, those are the scenarios where it is justifiable to go nuts that we're trying to bunt.

Smith is pinch-hitting, and they're bringing in a lefty? Ok, interesting. Hopefully Smith can get Brown in and get us somebody else with speed on.

That was a non-bunting, dumb ass situation. Just took the bat out of Lovelady's hands.

Yes, so he could give away one of our 6 remaining outs.

And Smith squared to bunt on an 0-1 count with 1 out. May have been trying to bunt for a hit, but good grief. So stupid.

And another K looking. What a joke.

Our guys have no idea how to hit with 2 strikes. Arguing over a strike call doesn't do you a lot of good while you're walking back to 1st.

I don't think he's a dumb ass -- but I'd love to hear him address the bunting thing in depth. Because it sure doesn't make sense from the distance.

You've already hit Collins once -- if you are going mass substitutions, why not let him hit for Lovelady there and try to get ahold of one?

This team is pressing. Has been for awhile. Blows my mind how all the bats go to shit at once. And guys are getting chances as pinch hitters and not doing crap. If you are going to put the game in these particular guys' hands -- why not do it from the beginning of the game. It took Rooker a few ABs to get going -- and then we benched him. Doesn't seem like the kinda guy that can help us much cold off the bench.

Nvm, Vickerson pinch running.

Oh, yea, not with Humphreys. But no GIDP here.

Gridley flies out to LF to end it.

Bats started to come to life once they subbed their SP out, but not nearly good enough tonight.

Need huge games from Sexton and Tatum.

On the bright side, our best two pitchers get six days rest for the SEC opener next Friday. Maybe we won't put a guy in the two hole hitting .188

or the 4 hole batting about .220

Todd4State

I'll be the first to say it- I don't want Humphreys bunting in that situation. If anyone wants to question it, that's fine- because I do to. If it was Robson, Vickerson- that's fine. But I want the power guys to swing the bat- just like the speed guys don't need to be swinging for the fences.

Robson getting thrown out at third was bad too. I understand it in the sense that you want to try to make something happen- but if you do you better damn well make it.

This type of a game is why I don't want Preston pitching on Friday's. He's a contact guy and he's going to give up some runs- even though he should have had a shutout because he had two wild pitches that scored both of their runs. But when you face up with the other team's aces- you want someone that can shut down the other team completely too- and that's what Tatum gives us. Preston is a good pitcher, he's a SEC quality starter and I love the guy to death- but we need our strike out guy to shut the other team down too.

Todd4State

I do think that Humphreys should be dropped in the order. I also agree with Schultzy too. Actually we should go back to the lineup we had when we were 13-0.

There's also a difference between 25 degrees and 60 degrees farenheit when talking about a a wrist injury. You only put him in there for a walk off, which he almost pulled off.
